One of my favourite Miles stories
Saladin Ahmed has one of the best writing styles that is approachable for younger readers while also presenting complex and challenging concepts in ways that will surprise older readers. There is an arc where Miles comes across Rhino while looking for his girlfriend's kidnapped cousin. He initially attacks him, only being familiar with him as a Spidey villain. After the misunderstanding, Rhino explains he's trying to reform, but his niece has been kidnapped and he will stop at nothing to save her. Miles and Rhino establish an uneasy alliance. Through this partnership with Rhino, Ahmed uses Miles' confident, forgiving, and kind attitude to gently present ideas such as recidivism, reform, and the difficulties ex-cons face when trying to go straight. It's a stellar companion piece to Ahmed's considerate and thoughtful Black Bolt miniseries, which deals with more complicated and complex scenarios involving incarceration, and it's my favourite arc in his run on Miles, but it's by no means the only reason to buy this TPB. Every issue is fun, clever, and illustrated/coloured beautifully. Its a great addition to any Spider-Man/Miles Morales collection. I got it for myself, but I'm excited to share it with my son as he gets old enough to read and understand the larger issues discussed through the series.
