Behind the Music: Densmore's 'The Seekers' Unveils the Artistic Soul
John Densmore's latest book, "The Seekers: Meetings With Remarkable Musicians (and Other Artists)," is a compelling journey into the hearts and minds of some of the most influential and creative forces in music and beyond. Known for his role as the drummer of The Doors, Densmore uses his insider perspective to offer readers a series of intimate encounters with artists who have shaped the cultural landscape."The Seekers" stands out for its deeply personal and reflective approach. Densmore doesn't just recount his experiences; he delves into the essence of what makes these artists tick, exploring their creative processes, inspirations, and the often complex realities of their lives. This is not just a book about musicians; it's a meditation on creativity itself. What makes Densmore's narrative so engaging is his genuine curiosity and respect for his subjects. He approaches each meeting with an open heart, ready to learn and share, which in turn opens up a space for candid and often revealing conversations. The book is peppered with anecdotes and insights that fans and fellow artists alike will find enlightening. The quality of Densmore's writing is another highlight. His prose is clear, thoughtful, and infused with the same rhythmic sensibility that characterized his drumming. This makes "The Seekers" not just informative but also a pleasure to read. The book's structure, moving from one encounter to the next, mimics a series of intimate jam sessions, each revealing a different facet of the artistic soul. One of the most memorable aspects of "The Seekers" is its exploration of the spiritual dimension of art. Densmore goes beyond the surface, probing the deeper connections between creativity and the quest for meaning. This philosophical undercurrent adds a layer of depth to the book, elevating it from a collection of celebrity encounters to a reflective exploration of art's power to touch the divine. The book is a must-read for anyone interested in the creative process, the history of modern music, or the journey of the artist. John Densmore offers a unique and insightful look at the lives of some of the most iconic figures in the arts, making this book a valuable addition to the literature on music and creativity. It's a heartfelt tribute to the spirit of exploration and innovation that drives the best of art.

An excellent read. Informative and interesting.
The Seekers, by John Densmore 2020, is the most recent book to come out about the Doors that I can think of. 2020 was the year for headlines galore so this book slipped right past us. Expecting a personal biography about the Doors’ drummer, I was pleasantly surprised by something way different. Densmore relates attitudes and philosophies of many other famous musicians he personally met including Elvin Jones, Janis Joplin, Ravi Shanker, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Paul Simon, Bob Marley, the Dali Lama and Willie Nelson to name a few. Each of the Doors band members too, of course. Plenty of photos too. Music, itself, is closely examined and how it relates to the human experience through metaphysical undertones and vibrations to the middle ear and more importantly, the mind and heart. I especially recommend this to my musical friends because many exotic musical terms and expressions jump out at you from behind things and catch you off guard. (I almost twisted an ankle reading this book.) If you’re a baby-boomer, this book is required reading to get you into that super-star-packed-arena upstairs when the time comes. 5 Stars!
