WILEY How to Speak So People Really Listen: The Straight–Talking Guide to Communicating with Influence and Impact

Wish I’d done a bit more research about his writing style before I’d bought this (and other) books of his. He sounds like a camp (not that I’m homophobic or anything) commercial DJ from rock fm or heart radio. I’m sure he has valid points and it’s a good book but I cannot deal with crappy jokes and fake American style writing (Like. Ever). Read John Armstrong, Alain de Botton and the school of life if you want more depth and character to your authors/books.

I was lucky enough to see Paul McGee speak at our company conference and until I read this book I assumed he was just a natural speaker, that it came easy to him. I therefore thought, I couldn't succeed in public speaking. This book helped me to see that actually there is an art, even a science to speaking in a way so people listen. The book covers all sorts of conversational settings, e.g public speaking, one to one conversation right through to sending email messages. I have been able to change some of the ways I communicate already and have noticed a difference e.g the title of an email and how to make it captivating and relevant to the receiver. In fact the biggest thing I got from this book is that it is always about the other person, it is not about us, it is about them. This has helped me take the anxiety and fear out of conversation because the anxiety and fear is related to me and how I feel. When you take your own feelings out of it the fear goes...AMAZING. Paul McGee is funny, informative, knowledgeable and clear in his messages. It is absolutely brilliant, I couldn't put it down....Learnt so many things in just the first few chapter...Love the writing style, the humour and practical acronyms..Great book to use as a reference guide for communication....Highly recommend....

Excellent book with superb, useful help and advice. If you do ANY public speaking then this is an absolute goldmine of information. I cannot praise this book high enough. From preachers to teachers, from after dinner speakers to presentation presenters this book is a MUST

This book gives a good strategy on how prepare for presentations and how to speak with influence to impact any audience.

An amazingly simple read on matters which can be very complex. McGee is a master at his craft and shares his knowledge and guidance with you in a simple yet informative way. You will learn so much from this book. It comes highly recommended for presentations, meetings, talking to large groups and even for talking one-on-one with people generally.
