Good tips but could be better
I embraced my curly hair 8 years ago after learning through a friend, and then her hairdresser, how to take care proper care of it. Nonetheless, I found this book very informative and I’ve learnt quite a few good tricks with it.This book will be especially good to those who are not aware yet about how to treat their curls, and I bet that’s a lot of people.Despite being obvious that much of its info can be found online, sometimes is hard to know from where to start, so that’s how the book can be helpful too.Cons:1. Silly chapters like the 12 steps one and the horoscope one that really should be removed all together2. The DVD that comes with the book, which I actually wanted to watch, but at this day and age I don’t have any DVD player at home (not even on my laptop), and who has it? The publishers need to update themselves urgently3. Their cleanse/conditioning method. The book explains that curly people should stick to sulfate-free shampoo and mention that we should avoid products that contain silicone. It would be very good if the author explained that if you happen to use a product with silicone in your hair, the sulfate-free shampoo will NOT be able to clean it, unless is a water soluble silicone. This is a complex point that needs further explanation. If silicone is left in the hair, it will build up with time and it can causes hair loss.Overall I would give at least four stars to this book, but because of point #3 above, I am giving it three.

Full of contadictions
Not keen. It's full of misinformation, impossibly stupid tips and advice and contradictions. Tells you never to "blow fry" your hair again and on the VERY NEXT PAGE tells you to blow dry your hair with a diffuser! Also apparently we're meant to clean our scalps with conditioner and sometimes mix gel with conditioner to clean our scalp...Umm no. Don't think I'll be doing that. I love puns as well as the next person too, but in this book they are endless and it just gets tiresome. Wish I hadn't bothered if I'm honest.

Found a great website/ forum last night called BritishCurlies
Wish I had found this in my 20s rather than my 50s!! ( although it wasn't written then- hey ho). Have shared this with some young curly work colleagues. Found a great website/ forum last night called BritishCurlies, which reminded me to review this book.

The Curly Hair Bible!
Ever since I was a little girl growing up in the 1980s I've hated my naturally curly hair. I was the only one in my immediate family with curls and no one had any idea how to care for them. I just remember being in tears at every hair wash night and in tears again every morning when my mum would brush all the tangles out in an effort to tame my hair. As soon as I could style my hair myself I went to huge lengths to straighten and control it, including 20+ years of straightening irons, blow drying and expensive chemical straightening treatments. My hair has dictated my life to an extent, I would often stay home rather than risk going outside in certain weather in case of frizz, I would avoid activities I usually enjoy like swimming or dancing. Now I have my own daughter with the exact curls I had as a child and I do NOT want her thinking her curls are in any way undesirable or something to be controlled. Therefore, after a holiday to Greece this summer where it was way too hot to even entertain getting the straighteners out, I have decided to embrace my curls and follow Lorraine's CGM. I've learned so much from this book and online about how to really care for mine and my daughter's curls, what curly hair needs and how to get the best from it. It has only been 4 weeks but my hair already looks and feels in better condition than it has in years and I'm looking forward to a future free of fighting against my natural hair. I'm aware I have a long way to go to get my hair back to what it was, I've got years and years worth of damage to undo but I'm up for the challenge! I would recommend this book to anyone who might be in a similar situation. Go for it, what have you got to lose?!

Best book ever!
This book is AMAZING! Even as a stylist, it's so informative! A must have for everyone, both stylists and clients alike! It was so good, I read it in a day! Lorraine Massey-you did an amazing job, I can't wait for your book next year!-to uk curlies, devacurl brand can be exchanged for trepadora-just use less styling product than devacurl, it's more concentrated
