The Lone Ranger: Behind the Mask: On the Trail of an Outlaw Epic

This is a great book about one of my favorite movies. It arrived in great condition from the secondary seller.

Weather you have seen The Lone Ranger or not, this book is a fun read on the making of this movie. Visually, it's stunning. The photos are not just publicity stills, but a lot of behind the curtain scenes. I really enjoyed the drawings of Illustrator Crash McCreery of Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer. An unexpected treat are photos taken by Stephen Berkman using a 19th Century view camera. The attention to detail this book chronicles is impressive, from building towns in the middle of deserts, taking whole trains to remote locations, to the amazing "old suit" the elderly Tonto wears, you get a real sense of the dedication given by cast and crew. It's difficult to discuss this book and not touch on the success of the movie or lack there of. Personally, I loved the movie. This book gives solid rationalization for the direction of The Lone Ranger. Not unlike The Mask of Zorro from the 90s, Lone Ranger mixes real U.S. history with the myth of this uniquely American hero. I' m hoping the The Lone Ranger finds a DVD audience so we can see a Lone Ranger 2. If you liked the movie, you'll love this book.

The media could not be loaded.  The Lone Ranger: Behind the Mask is a very well done film companion book.The book's a 168-page hardcover. The page layout is wonderful. Photos are beautiful, shot in high resolution and used huge throughout.Included are lots of photos. You get to see the set, behind the scene, props, costumes, make up and of course the characters. There's also plenty to read on the film production, casting, staging scenes, set decoration, production design, making up, training horses, and shooting in the wilderness of New Mexico.Highly recommended if you're a fan of the film.(There are more pictures of the book on my blog. Ignore the critics, who were dead-wrong about this fun summer movie. If you liked THE LONE RANGER movie as much as I did (I saw it twice in two weeks), then this large-format hardcover book will enhance that enjoyment.Lots of great photos from the movie and behind the scenes, production design sketches, close-ups of costumes and props, etc. Explanations of how they staged the spectacular action sequences, which were far more clever and inventive than such summer blockbusters as MAN OF STEEL and STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS.I just got this book a couple of days ago, flipped through it several times, and can't wait to read it from cover to cover.It's a shame there are not likely to be any movie sequels. THE LONE RANGER deserved better.

Love it

The book is excellent. Obviously, all involved in the project foresaw a much higher box office. For some reason, the critics decided quite early that almost no one in their profession planned to write a positive review. So many were quite clear on their stance. That being written, do not let that stop you from purchasing the book. The work is full of wonderful stories, beautiful photographs, and many other elements from a cast and crew that obviously loved the film. I am a professor of American history, memory and popular culture at a Research One university, I recognize the film did have a few problems, but overall I loved the picture and subsequently loved this book examining the film. Enjoy!

If you did not see this film, this book will make you sad that you listened to the critics and passed on it when it was in the theaters. The efforts and sacrifice on the part of cast and crew to bring this story to the screen were awesome. If it had not been for the negative reviews, this film would have been the biggest hit of the summer, and deservedly so. If you did see the movie, this book will only add to your enjoyment when you see it again on DVD.

Ordered these for chirstmas gifts - so they have NOT been opened yet, but they came quickly, were lovingly packed so no damage could happen in shipping, I was impressed with that. its a pricy book and looks gorgeous from the outside! Its a BIG book - more of what they used to call " A COFFEE TABLE BOOK". Cant wait to see my moms face when she opens it! :~)

The film was funny, full of action and Johnny Depp was brilliant. His facial features were so expressive!!More people ought to see it - it was good entertainment.The scenery was brilliant too.The book that accompanies the dvd is amazing. Pictures are awesome and capture the western genre to perfection.Both the film and book should be widely promoted.

This is a very beautiful book with stunning photos and lots of really interesting behind the scenes pics and information. If you love the film (as a lot of people do, ignore the critics) then you will love this book.
