EGW 4 Caliber Auto Ammo Chamber Checker (9mm, 40 S&W, 45 & 38 calibers)

Works better than more expensive gauges. I originally purchased an expensive cutaway Sheridan Engineering 45ACP gauge which passed cartridges that would not chamber in my pistol. The EGW gauge rejected anything that did not chamber in my pistol. I milled the same slot in the EGW 45ACP hole that Sheridan Engineering milled in theirs so I could see the difference. The difference was amazing. EGW had a perfect sharp transition between the bullet and the case. This is made with more precision than the expensive gauge from Sheridan..

The multi-caliber feature is obviously a big plus; I use mine for 9mm and 45. The quality is excellent, better than some EGW parts I’ve used.What I didn’t expect this to do so perfectly is work for checking ammo for tight chambered pistols like CZ, M&P 2.0, Gen5 Glocks. My Lyman gauge is very sloppy in comparison and allows me to make loads that won’t safely chamber. This EGW has saved me a ton of time and headaches.Not sure why another reviewer had trouble with 9mm 147gr FN because I’ve used 115 RN, 147 plated RN, 147 FN plated and FMJ, all worked great. On 45 I’ve tried 200gr plated and 230 FMJ, no issues.

I bought this headspace gauge after starting to load 125gr 9mm (flat nose, hard cast bullets). I could not get most rounds to pass the 'plunk' test while using my Walther's barrel, so I bought this to verify. Sure enough, many of the cartridges I loaded would not pass the gauge test. I then discovered it was a bullet seating depth issue. Once I corrected the bullet seat depth, all cartridges passed on this headspace gauge and chambered perfectly!

Love it, just drop cartridges in the hole and it either needs trimmed or not, quick and easy

I bought this to mainly check 9mm brass. As you may know, when reloading 9mm you have to be careful of the “Glock bulge”. Since I’m able to completely resize my other calibers with push through dies, I haven’t really used the othe sizes. Seems well made and I’m sure I’ll get plenty of years of service out of it.
