I read the reviews and thought I may as well try it out as the Kids will play with the set....a bit Pricey I thought for a kids play set and comparing the reviews read....But I was shocked when I opened the Package!!!It's all Wooden and Hand Crafted Chess pieces. The quality is absolutely awesome...I'm now going to keep this set for myself and only use when I play.Another point to mention is how they wrapped the package...thick Bubble Wrap making sure nothing gets damaged...really nice to get something like this without a scratch from India.It's a pity they're all sold out otherwise I'd buy another 14" Set....I'll just have to wait as I'll definitely buy another.Absolutely AwesomeThank you!

I'm really happy with this chess set, and impressed by the quality of the woodworking. There is almost no detectable seem where it folds, and the black pieces are beautiful rosewood. The black squares on the board are also gorgeous to look at, a real treat. They look like walnut, not a perfect match to the board. You can tell I'm a wood enthusiast. The board did come with a dent in one side/corner. The wood fibers are crushed leaving splinters. The packing was extremely good, and the packing wasn't damaged, so it must have been that way before it was packed. For me it's not worth sending back, but it did knock off a star.Magnets are a great idea. Makes the board much more portable and also helps one not to clumsily knock over pieces. Very glad to have the magnets. I actually don't really use the storage, although it is well executed. I throw the pieces in a small bag, just faster in my opinion, 2 seconds to dump them out. I am glad the board folds though because it is easier to take it with me when I visit some of my chess-playing loved ones. I have heard no complaints although some people have noticed the dent. Just my luck, I guess!

This is a review of the 14x14 folding magnetic set. I wanted to specify as several of the Stone Kraft sets seem to have the reviews inter-mixed. My original order was for the 16x16 set described as having individual storage positions for the pieces under the board. It did not, so I returned and a ordered the 14x14 set after emailing StoneKraft.This is a reasonable quality set. Its much nicer than the plastic variety and is a fair value for the price. The magnetic pieces have just the right degree of holding power to secure the pieces and add stability to play. One of the hinges is off center. It can be pushed closed, but only at an angle. I'll hope that holds up over time. The middle of the board that joins together when unfolded set has a thick overspray stripe of the varnish applied to the top of the board. I believe I can make the set lie flat when open by lightly sanding it. I could return in the hope the quality issues are an aberration. I decided to keep it as this is the second set.

Updated/added to below. Bought the first board that had been returned by someone else. These boards are made in high humidity regions/countries. If you live in a low humidity region/state, the wood shrinks and causes the board to crack and delaminate. We replaced the first board. After 48hrs, the second board did exactly the same thing. Send both back.I bought this chess set for my daughter. When we received it, it obviously had been previously returned. The chessboard had several sticky notes with arrows pointing to cracks and places where the board was delaminating. Very disappointing that a company would just send that out again to another customer hoping they will accept it.The chess pieces were OK. Not fantastic but it is a fairly cheap set. The main issue is the construction of the board. Where are the individual squares are mounted, the construction allows for those pieces to separate and lift up. In a couple of spots the chess pieces hit a lip between the squares as you slide the pieces over them. There are other spots where there are 3 or 4 inch splits in the board.We have ordered a replacement set from Amazon. Hopefully the next step will be better and not previously returned. If so, I will update review. As it stands, I would not recommend people by this. You are the better off Buying a cheaper set or spending the extra money on a nicer set.

The wood of board & pieces is heavy and beautifully done, very heavy and well made. I love that all the pieces can be stored within the game board. My only issue w/this was one of the hinges was placed on a little crooked and the metal scratched the table that we had laid the game board on. My husband had to do a little repair work to ensure that it didn't scratch anything in future. I would recommend this.

I like it very much. I use it to help me analyze the matches of GMs. The magnets worked very well. My suggestion in the design is to provide a HANDLE for travelling plus a LOCK for the hinge to keep it from folding when in use. Also, WHITE and BLACK color options would be nice, too.
