You can buy extra ice packs but its not needed for this item you get what you need with it ice packs insert in the full length of the knee support in there own pockets my partner loves his hes a pt and does alot of sports

How long does it take to freeze the packs

Just a few hours that's why it's better to get a second set of ice packs. I have used them after they have been in the freezer an hour of so because I had difficulty getting a second set of ice packs. But I did use others that I had and just made them fit! The whole this is wonderful. I used it all the time when I had my knee replaced. I was advised by a friend to get the really expensive one but this was equally as good.

How does this work with heat therapy? Doesn't appear to be specific inserts for heat? Only mentions artic ice packs?

Hello there! You may heat the gel packs in either the microwave or on the stove top. In the microwave, place the gel pack on a paper towel and heat at full power for 45-60 seconds. Reheat at 10-second intervals until desired temperature is reached. On the stove top, bring 3 quarts (3.5 liters) of water to a boil. Remove the water from heat source.
