Shaping the World: Sculpture from Prehistory to Now

Fascinating
Not the cheapest book, but well worth the money for the quality of pictures with great insight from Anthony Gormley and Martin Gaylord into the history of sculpture. Book takes you on a journey through time from pre history to the present day. Found it to be very insightful, would make a lovely present for someone or a treat for yourself.

Highly recommended
Absolutely brilliant! I think Martin Gaylord is one the great art writers as he effortlessly links ideas, concepts and timelines. He did this when he sat for a Freud and again with Hockney cresting narratives about how art is made and how it is all part of a creative continuum. This book continues those themes with Gormely sharing his ideas and inspirations along the way. It’s a brilliant source book as well as a informative read : highly recommended.

Fascinating and wide-ranging study of sculpture
This is a gorgeous book, full of amazing images that make connections across cultures and millenia, from prehistory to artworks made this year. The text is in the form of a conversation so you feel you've been allowed to sit in on a chat between two people who have been thinking, talking and writing about art their whole lives (and making it), but it's very accessible and jargon free. A beautiful and mind-expanding book to lose yourself in.
