KOHLERK-18829-NA 2" x 4" In-Wall Toilet Tank and Carrier System

WE LOVE THIS TOILET design. We were building a very small powder room (34" x 72") and needed every available inch, so we decided to install the Kohler in wall toilet system. It's expensive, but it looks fantastic. Lot's of work to reinforce the wall but well worth it in the end. We plan to use this toilet in our whole house remodel.

Local supplier was unable to get product to me in a timely manner. Exactly what I needed and arrived in time for my project. Thanks!

Specific to Kohler model # K18829.Great product for wall mount toilet, frame is solid and parts appear to be high quality. In the installation instructions (download from kohler.com, reference page 6), there is a way to mount an included plastic bracket, called a mounting frame, to the metal carrier frame. This is the second unit I got from amazon, same problem. I actually got a third one directly from Kohler, after calling them and sending them the picture attached here and a video clip showing that the plastic mounting frame falls out. It was not easy to convince Kohler staff there was a problem until they realized I was very specific, had emailed them pictures *and* they tried to mount the plastic mounting frame on one of their metal carrier frames. On their unit the person told me the rear mount wasn't as tight on the front. But, they did send me a replacement - that was awesome follow through, standing behind their product. But, there is a manufacturing issue.All three of the frames I've had here have the same issue, there appears to be a manufacturing defect, such that there is inadequate metal in the carrier frame between the center and rear mounting holes for the plastic mounting frame. This plastic mounting frame is supposed to clip in place. It does in the front pair of holes for 2x4 construction. It simply falls out of the rear holes because there isn't a wide enough band of metal.I have 2x6 framing and I needed the 2x6 application for a specific waste pipe issue below the subfloor. I solved the mounting problem myself with four #6 stainless 3/4 inch bolts, washers on both sides, lock washers under two nuts for each bolt. Of course I had to drill through the metal carrier frame (best done by holding the plastic mounting frame in place as you drill).Picture attached is a close up of the carrier frame, where the six mounting hoes are to insert the plastic mounting frame. You can see there is more metal between the front pair of holes and the back pair of holes a full 1/8th of an inch. This is why the snap/click in place works for the front mounting and fails for the rear mounting.Average rating - great product, excellent customer support, lowered due to the need to really convince, lowered for what appears to be a consistent manufacturing issue.
