Best book I've read on style and identity!
I've found most books on style to be unhelpful and while I still believe there is no perfect formula for style dressing, Kibbe's book isn't about a 'system'. Kibbe's writing style is personable and intelligent, he takes you on a journey where you can learn to appreciate what you have. Working with who you are on the outside and inside to create a harmonious image, you can look your best every day if you let yourself. The section on color analysis is outdated; there is a '12 tone' system available performed by certified color analysts. Moreover, the photographs and 'average heights' are not relevant.Despite being published in the 80s, the message itself is far from outdated. A wonderful and enlightening read, I will no doubt often refer back to this book.

Loved the book
Loved the book, I was able to get a great price on an out of print copy, and it made me want to see David in NYC in, so I did in 2013 :). It was incredible, a lot of his concepts have evolved since the 80s, and seeing him in person added so much more knowledge to what I got out of the book. I went shopping with him, got his makeup, and learned my type in his system, and my best styles and colors :). It was all such a great investment for me when I think of how much money I've wasted on the wrong styles, colors and makeups throughout the years :)

Love this book!
This book is extremely helpful for zeroing in on what style of clothes, hair, and makeup work for you. Just ignore the 80s photos!I do wish there had been two "after" photos for each category - one for evening wear, and one for casual wear.

Too Dated!
Some of the info was pertinent to any age with a definite style, but it just seemed very dated with the photos.

Kibbe works
This book is great in terms of how to break down body type by yin/yang physical attributes. He goes deeper than the usual "curvy, straight and pear" shapes as he determines bone shape/size and the flesh that covers it. So you can have sharp angular bones but soft flesh, which would make you a soft dramatic. The extremes are dramatic (extremely angular) and romantic (extremely round), and most people are a mix of the two. His system is not easy, but it works. I admire how he has observed style from the inside out. Keep in mind that the book is from the late 80's and a lot of the clothing depicted is not in fashion anymore, but the principals are basic and can be applied to today's styles. It's a fun read and will make you think. Best to go through the metamorphosis with a friend or a group who will be blunt with you. The whole point is to make you look your best as you, not to fit into any social mold.
