A nice little overview of the time. Nothing too in depth but enough in it to justify the purchase.

Fascinating

This book devotes a page of text and a page with a nice color plate to each of about 30 artists, architects, and other prominent figures associated with the Vienna Secession movement. Unfortunately the introduction is a pompous, opinionated mess of prose that does little to set the stage for the brief synopses that accompany the plates. The synopses themselves are quite good, so the text is not a total waste. If you're looking for a book, as I was, to get a general sense of how this place and period of artistic change came about and evolved, this book is *not* a good choice.

Lors d'un voyage à Vienne, j'ai beaucoup apprécié et utilisé ce beau-livre qui offre sur le plan culturel un panorama de la société viennoise entre les deux guerres. Clair, concis, richement illustré, il permet de se faire une idée de ce qu'a été "La Sécession", union d'artistes qui ont tenté un art global en rupture avec le classicisme antérieur et pourtant avec le soutien de l'empire austro-hongrois.

Loved the book. Makes a great addition to my coffee table books
