Amazing clarity
The Panoramax CLT is the best welding helmet I have used. The view of the weld puddle is incredible, I can watch the puddle melt into the base metal. For me the best feature is how much of the weld area I can see while welding. Usually I see the puddle and the melting wire, but have a very hard time seeing where I want to go with the weld. With this CLT 2.0 lens I can see the project and where I want to run with the weld while the arc is struck, and with the wide viewing area of the Panoramaxx design I can see more of my project. Combined, these two features make it so much easier to lay down good welds. With age my vision under the hood has been getting steadily worse, and I am also partially color blind. Four years ago I upgraded to the Optrel e684, and it was a revelation compared to the Miller Elite hood I had been using. Now the Panoramaxx CLT blows the e684 away; to my eyes it is that much better. It is pricey, and perhaps if you have younger eyes than I it won't matter. But for me this is the welding helmet I have been searching for, and I immediately laid down better welds after putting on the Panoramax CLT.

Comfortable
Super comfortable. But the lens is so big that you get a glare from behind at certain angles. That said I’m pretty happy with it.

Shell is extremely delicate
Top-rear of shell was found to be cracked when I took the hood out of the box. The shipping box was in perfect condition. Product box showed signs of some rough handling, but if the thing can't even take it when it's still sealed in the box that it comes in, how durable will it be in everyday use? Not very, IMO. The product box provides zero-protection for the contents and the extra front-shield fell out on the floor when the hood was pulled out of the box. VERY poor packaging for this seriously-overpriced and delicate product. Also, the control knobs are almost impossible to get to, even bare-handed, with the headgear in the way as is the battery charging port. After doing more research - which I SHOULD have done before purchasing it - I've found that I'm in no way the only person that's had this issue. It'll shatter like an egg if dropped two feet onto the floor. Absolutely not recommended. I'll go with the tried and true Lincoln 3350. Should have just done that from the git-go.

It’s decent, but
It’s a good helmet, the Chinese made accessories like the cheater lenses are horribly poor quality. It’s better than my $160 Vulcan harbor freight helmet but not by a huge margin. Nothing wrong with it, it’s never flashed me and it has clear wide angle views, it seems rather dark unless I’m at or above 150 amps, still works fine but I don’t get those clear bright views even running at -2 on auto, so I end up running manual mode… it’s a real toss up how good it is for the price, I’d say it’s a great helmet at $250, for double that it’s not that impressive to me… it’s a personal item though so you might be totally blown away… just don’t by the cheater lens or bag for it, the quality of the accessories is shamefully poor quality which makes me think if they will put there name on that garbage for profit what is this exactly… I’d say it’s a good helmet, but the price tag makes it average or less than average value for money… I was hoping to like it more than I do… the adjuster also grabs my hair pretty often so that’s a big fail, can’t say I’ve had any other headgear do that…. Not a big deal, but could be frustrating as it’s painful when it happens… overall I’m happy with it, but the price takes away a lot from being totally satisfied…

Very disappointed for what I paid for this helmet
I had this hemet for about a year and it started flashing me. I contacted Optrel and went through the suggested adjustments and nothing helped. To their credit, they sent me a brand new helmet. That was 4 months ago and now this new one has to be constantly charged to keep it working. That’s right, this helmet has to be charged. Nothing about that in their sales literature. If I don’t use it for a few days it will periodically flash me unless I charge it first. If I go for a couple weeks, the auto darkening won’t work at all unless I charge it first. Get a good Lincoln or another good brand and save $200-$300. I’m glad I have my good old Lincoln as a standby. When this helmet works it’s great. But it doesn’t always work.

Super
