Wind (Whatever the Weather)

Loved them so much, I bought all of them!
I bought this book because a friend gave me another in the series (Rain) and I loved it! From a very young age, maybe 10mo old, my kiddo has loved trying to mimic the sounds in Rain. Now we get to do the same with Wind (and Sun, because we bought that too). It’s hard to describe seasons and weather to kids this young (my kid is now 2), so I love that these books use sound and body motions to help mimic the weather. Very useful. And the illustrations are beautiful!

Weather
Board book about weather for young children. Has pictures to talk with your child about the wind. Can’t see wind but the cause and effect.

Perfect for toddlers
Perfect for toddlers. I used this during my “chase the wind” Tinkergarten class and it was perfect for my younger explorers.

Wind
On a breezy day, four children and a dog experience the properties of the wind. The friends discover that the weather phenomenon is has its fun and negative sides: the breeze can make a pinwheel spin but also blow your hat away. As the frolickers revel in the wind, they hear the different sounds it makes: “Wind swishes, swoo…ooshes and soars! Wind rustles and shakes…howls and roars!”As in the other books in Carol Thompson’s “Whatever the Weather!” series, simple text that makes generous use of onomatopoeia brings the delights of a windy day to life. Colorful illustrations demonstrating facial and body language of human and canine companions are a vital part of the story. Kids will have a wonderful time joining in with the sound effects and following the lead of the characters as they sway and play in the wind.

Simple quick read
A simple book but the illustrations are beautiful and the words keep my 16 month old interested. We read this book daily. We plan on purchasing the other books in the whatever the weather series
