Dragon's Nest: Deltora Quest 3, Book 1

With the Deltora Quest series wrapped up, and the Deltora Shadowlands series concluded, the question arises, "What's next for our intrepid band of heroes?". Well, the good news is that Rodda just spends a few pages settling all of the characters into Del, and then almost immediately sends them off again on what will be another four part quest. The pattern follows that of Deltora Quest. We must find and destroy each of the four sisters. Each book ends with a confrontation with one of the sisters. The substance of each book deals with sub-plots and sidetracks, all of which come around to be tied up neatly and cleverly at the end of each volume. The framing quest is well-conceived. Each individual book is well plotted. The main characters aren't developing very much, but that's OK because they are very satisfying and sympathetic types, and I don't know how much further you could go with them in a set of books aimed at this younger reader level. Actually, when compared to the Hardy Boys or Enid Blyton's kids, these Deltora characters do have a fair amount of substance. Along with Rowan of Rin, the Rodda series aimed for a slightly younger crowd, I just don't see how you could go wrong with these books. A note of warning - the books can be read out of order, or with a missing book here or there, because Rodda tries to keep the reader up to speed on the larger quest plot, but it's a lot easier to read the series in order and the books of each individual series in order.

My 8 yr old son loves this series! It has finally gotten him into reading on his own, and he is very proud to be reading chapter books with very little drawings in it! He feels like a grown up. It doesn't seem to overwhelm him from the size of some of the other children's chapter books.

My son is loving listening to the audio while following along with the book. It would be nice to have a easier way to access the chapters, but overall a great find.

My family and I have enjoyed all of these books in this very imaginative sereies! Very good writing to capture your imagination.

ご存知、デルトラの第３シリーズです。第１，２シリーズで出てきた地名なども出てきますので、順番に読み進めることをお勧めします。今回は、表紙にあるようにドラゴンが出てきます。話の展開は相変わらずといえばそれまでですが、それでもついつい引き込まれてしまうあたり、さすがエミリー・ロッダです。全４巻のお話で、私は４巻が出たのを確認してから４冊手元に揃えた状態で読み始めました ;-)
