After researching the cost and limitations of portable generator manual transfer switches, I decided to install this interlock kit for my portable 10,000 watt generator. The transfer switch that I first considered cost an excess of $300 and would limit me to use of only 6 circuits of my 200 amp distribution panel. Instead I decided to install this interlock kit in my Square D 200 amp Homeline panel. The generator is plugged into a power inlet box installed in the exterior of my garage that feeds through an appropriately-sized Romex cable to the generator circuit breaker in my distribution panel.Both the interlock bracket and the generator circuit breaker retaining bracket are made of heavy-gauge metal. The hole drilling template enables precise drilling of the three required holes for a perfect fit of the interlock bracket, and the generator circuit breaker retaining bracket fits perfectly over the circuit breaker to lock it in place with an existing bolt already located in the panel.I highly recommend this product for its excellent quality, low price, ease of installation, and ability to use desired circuits when running a portable generator. This interlock kit offers a safe alternative to insure positive disconnection of the main circuit breaker in a distribution panel before the panel can be energized with a portable generator.

I installed this easily on my panel and wired in a new 50 A breaker and pulled a cable to a new Generator Plug in receptacle in the backyard. Bought a big dual fuel generator. Everything was on Amazon except the breaker and cable. Now we are ready for the next ice storm or windstorm.

Like many other Texans did, after our RARE sub-zero temperatures we experienced in February, I purchased a portable generator to connect to our electric panel. This device is a must for safety, if you aren't installing some type of transfer device. Only difficulty installing this was due to our Square D panel being upside down. Just had to remember to do everything backwards. The device worked great!
