Pacy second book in this YA eco thriller
The second in Teri Terry's YA eco thriller is a pacy affair that splits the narrative between Tabby and Denzi with Tabby trying to stay ahead of the people who are after and Denzi seeking answers to what is going on. You need to have read the first book - DARK BLUE RISING - in order to follow the events here as it is not the kind of book you can just dive into and there's a lot that has happened before. The speculative parts of the book work well and while there is a lot of set-up for the finale, the split narrative and pace of the action means that this doesn't suffer from soggy middle book syndrome. All in all, it's a solid read and I will definitely be checking out the last book in the trilogy.

Sun sea earth sky
Second volume in the young adult trilogy 'the circle' a contemporary story of climate change and secret experiments.First book was 'Dark Blue Rising.' This is not a jumping on point, so new readers should start with that. Regular ones, read on.This volume runs for three hundred and seventy nine pages. It has ninety chapters. It is divided into seven parts.Whereas book one was solely seen from Tabby's first person present tense viewpoint, this time the narrative alternates between her and classmate Denzi. As Tabby has to run and try and find some way to survive and stay ahead of those who are after her, she needs people to trust. Meantime Denzi is looking for answers as to what happened. He gets drawn deeper and deeper into what is going on.And the circle haven't finished their actions yet....Very readable again. A great sense of paranoia in the Tabby sections of the story and a good threat level as well. Denzi comes into his own as a character nicely, and the way he goes into certain decisions is well handled. There is some thought provoking material here about acting when you feel something is wrong and what you choose to do about it.This just isn't quite as good as book one though because it does feel a bit like a mid book at times. Which it is, but I mean in the sense of one that just sets up things for the finale and doesn't really advance the story that far. The set up is very good though. Some very tantalising hints about the circle really leave you in the dark about them, but desperate to know more. And the book does end with momentous developments which leave you desperate to know what will happen in book three. 'Black night falling.'I want to know, therefore this book has done it's job. Looking forward to seeing what happens next. This is a solid entry in a very good story.

Exciting sequel
This is the sequel to Dark Blue Rising, and you really need to read that first as this book picks up immediately afterwards without much backstory or explanation. The story is an eco-thriller featuring an environmental activist group, and there's a decent touch of sci-fi and fantasy too. It's great for getting teenagers interested in the threats to our planet, and it's a good read for adults as well.Unlike the first book, this is told from two points of view - Tabby and Denzi. This works pretty well and at the beginning of the book you get about ten chapters from each one before the point of view shifts, so you're not constantly having to adjust. Towards the end they do switch more frequently. The middle book in a trilogy can be tricky but this one keeps a good pace and retains the interest! Looking forward to the third!

Thrilling read!
Another thrilling read from Teri Terry. It did take me a little while to get into this, purely because I couldn't remember all of the details from Dark Blue Rising. The action picks up immediately after the end of the previous book, so a quick re-read or plot review is recommended if, like me, it's been a year between reading the two. This time the narrative is split between two characters, Tabby who is on the run from the sinister Circle/Penrose Clinic and Denzi, her friend from swim school, who is one of the few survivors of the storm surge which destroyed much of the coastline at the end of the previous book. Both have questions that need answering, both have problems with knowing who they can trust. This is a brilliant, twisty thriller, and I can't wait to find out how it all ends.

Thought provoking issues
Red Sky Burning is the sequel to Dark Sky Rising and is an eco-thriller. Two older teenagers, Denzi and Tabby are searching for the truth about their beginnings and trying to solve the puzzle of the rather sinister and mysterious group, The Circle. The teenagers are besieged by lots of questions, problems and danger. It is an exciting read for year 8 and upwards with few challenging vocabulary. The subject matter of environmental issues reflects today's topical discussions. This is the first time of reading a Teri Terry book and it was fine to jump straight in as an adult but, some people may feel reading the first one prior to the second book less confusing or more satisfying.

Truly original
I was very quickly gripped by Tabbys story in dark blue rising and the pace doesn't let off in red sky burning. You do really need to read these books in order. There is a certain symmetry to Terris trilogies (all trilogies?) that means book two can drag along a little but the originality of the story here really helps minimise this. I'm just annoyed that book three isn't out yet so I can buy it "for my daughter".
