nice quality, great reviews
I'll update this but wanted to give my preliminary thoughts on this item. It is large, seems well built. I purchased this model after reading the many positive reviews about this thermometer. I have the old fashioned 'stick in' type, the wireless probe models but wanted something with a longer handle that would give a quick, digital readout. Let's be honest; these things are all made in China which opens up the question on quality control and accuracy. There are many models that look the same and perhaps they are. I love Amazon because I can read the feedback from people that have 'Verified Purchased' an item. Nothing is better than historic feedback. Of course I shall update this after months of use in order to help others down the road. I bought this based on other reviews.

It works great and is assisting in perfecting the burger and steak
This was another big hit as Christmas gifts! It works great and is assisting in perfecting the burger and steak! Easy to use and cleans up quick and easily! Now my boys that are die hard grillers won't even cook without these. Learning the instant you need to know what the center of that steak is, makes for such a better steak! These items have been used out in the ice, snow, rain, and Indiana winter because they were a Christmas gift. So, they went right to work with them! I plan to buy more as gifts this year! They are very well made and appear as though they will last a long time.

Carnivore tested, vegetarian approved
How on earth did I live this long without a meat fork like this? Well... because I'm a vegetarian, but to be honest, that's all the more reason to have one of these. I don't object to cooking meat, I just don't eat it. As a vegetarian, what do I know about what a medium-rare steak looks like from the outside? (Answer, nothing). Even my steak-a-vore husband makes mistakes (mis-steaks?).Sometimes I host thanksgiving dinner or cook pot roast for the extended family. I've always relied on the "slice open the breast" method to determine if a turkey is ready and the and the 4 hours at 350 degrees style for pot roast of testing if meat is ready. I mean, I'm not eating it, anyway. It hasn't killed anyone yet, but I'll be the first to admit- it's not very scientific. Enter the Smart Digital Meat and BBQ thermometer. My cooking has gone from good to amazing. I've gotten a lot of compliments since buying this item.As for my husband, he didn't trust it the first time and wound up with a rare steak instead of a medium rare steak. He has since learned that it gives a good reading and I haven't had to watch him eat anymore raw steak. As for use, it's easy to stab the meat and measure how well done the meat is. It's very quick and easy to use. It works easily on both the grill and the oven. As great as it is as a thermometer, it's not very good as a meat fork. It's all plastic and aluminum, it feels pretty insubstantial in my hand. The tines are too thin and too far apart. I still love it, but I just have to use a regular meat fork for the heavy lifting.I very much recommend this product. Carnivore tested, vegetarian approved.

Great tool - easy to use
This works really well and is easy to use. The readings are very fast. Only issue is that the tines are very sharp and the little caps broke after first use..I have this hanging on a hook in the pantry and use it every time I cook meat. No more guessing if it is done right!. Easy to use for grilling too but I use this in regular kitchen. (If you forget to turn it off, it will give you temp of room and waste the battery...but it has an auto shut off)

Lifetime Warranty Means Lifetime
3/8/16 UpdateAfter shopping around I decided to get Lavatools Javelin PRO Digital Instant Read Thermometer. It's sturdy and has a large LCD display that is backlit so that is can be used after dark.2/27/16 UpdateRecently the plastic around the tines started breaking off and crumbling. I noticed that at least one other person has complained about this issue, Product description says lifetime 100% money back guarantee. Ok after 30 day return window expires how do you do it? There is no information in the frequently asked questions!Yes I've had this item for a over a year, but lifetime means lifetime. I contacted Amazon customer service yesterday and today they issued a 100% refund on this item.------------There are many "Top Reviewers" who have been given a unit for free and in turn are expected to provide a review of the product. This practice has a tendency to skew the results! A few of those reviewers have acknowledged they were given a free sample, most have not.Now add to that the badgering emails requesting that you provide a product review. I provided this review a while ago and have received 3 emails since, requesting that I provide a review. Well if I receive another request I am going to drop the 3 star rating to 2 stars. It appears to be easy to operate and has the advantage of requiring the user to manually turn the power off on this device instead of relying on an auto shutoff mode that frequently doesn't work.Tested the fork tonight it was responsive and worked as expected.I like the cheap price of $13.99, there are others selling the exact same fork for much more. I don't like receiving emails that are badgering me to post a review for this item! Or the fact that we have a bunch of Amazon top 100 reviewers reviewing the product. Did they get this item for free? One has to wonder...One definite downside is that at night time there is no way to turn the display on for 15 or 20 seconds while you are trying to use the fork to check the temperature. But in any event this appears to be a good purchase for the price. There really is no need to spend $20 or more for this kind of device. Time will tell if it lasts.
