Grandkids love it!
I like this game bc you can play a shorter and easier version by not adding up points and work up with strategy as they age. We made up phrases such as, "Yum! Tasty grass!" We would tip the diplodocus (they loved saying the whole word) and it would eat the grass with a chomping noise. When the pterodactyl would carry one off we say, "Caw! Caw!" Lots of fun for our 4 and 5 year olds and could be for ages 3 on up if you gear the expectations down to their level.

Fun Feasting with Dinos Despite Inaccurate Geological Depictions
These similarly named games are actually clones of one another with the exception of the plastic dinosaurs included. In Snack you'll play as competing Diplodocus trying to avoid becoming a T rex's lunch while in Brunch you'll do the same with Triceratops avoiding two hungry Velociraptor's. We'll ignore three of those four dinosaurs including both predators existed during the subsequent Cretaceous geologic period not the Jurassic. I suppose because Allosaurus isn't as widely feared it didn't warrant inclusion despite being the iconic Jurassic predator. Brunch was released in Europe and Snack in the US, by famed designer Bruno Cathala. He's designed some of the best games of the modern era including 7 Wonders Duel, Abyss, Five Tribes and Kingdomino so we can look past these games perpetuating scientific inaccuracies with regard to dinosaurian evolution. JS and JB don't deserve mention in that class either as there's not much strategy involved nor much tactics come to think of it. Nonetheless they can each be fun 15 min 7 plus kids games. I will say the kid you play with has to be cool with getting some of his dinosaurs eaten with possible loss due to player elimination. If that's not the case I'd steer clear of this dino adventure because really all you are doing is spending two action points to move and reveal foliage tokens on the modular board to earn 1-3VP per turn on their flipsides. You might find a yummy "grass" treat (I'll excuse the fact that grasses hadn't yet evolved at the time of the dinosaurs), some dino movement bonus (Again ignoring Pterodactyls even the largest Quetzalcoatulus couldn't carry a Diplodocus nor did they live at the same time), a new dino hatchling to add to your clan, a sneak peek tile, a Volcano that destroys two tiles or if you're not careful a hidden predator that makes you disappear. If each person is able to keep at least one dinosaur alive the game ends once the final tile is revealed and scoring proceeds. While the rules and gameplay aren't that engaging, the components are fabulous for a 15 min game that costs under $20 and gives you an opportunity for some face time with your kids. During that face time you can set the record straight about grasses and Pterodactyls and that most of these dinosaurs didn't live during the Jurassic period and decide on a better name for this game: Dino Munch, Cypress Lunch or Cretaceous Crunch?

Excellent 2-Player Family Game - Wonderful Components!
(Note: I'm a pretty experienced gamer, used to more complex/rules heavy games, but I also appreciate well-made family/kids games and also have a lot of experience with those!)I wasn't sure what to expect from Jurassic Snack... it can be hard to get a kids/family game just right - not too difficult, not too boring, not too random/luck-based, not too long, etc. But, boy, was I pleasantly surprised with Jurassic Snack for a number of reasons:1. Components: The components are outstanding, top to bottom. The cardboard pieces are all thick and sturdy, the little dinos are toy-quality, and the graphic design on everything is fantastic. You couldn't ask for more, components-wise – definitely increases the giftability, too! (Nice sturdy box, also.)2. Duration: This game can actually be played in 15 minutes. This is key. Too often, kids games can last indefinitely, and get into that inevitable zone where both you and the kid are tired of the game but you have to finish... this begins and WILL 100% be over long before then.3. Simplicity: The rules are simple - very simple. This is also key. "Designer" kids games can sometimes get a little too wordy, rules-wise, so basically having only ONE type of action per turn – move a dinosaur – is great. Easy to teach, easy to grasp.4. Still some decisions to be made: For me, games are all about decision making, and even though this game is very simple, there are still enough decisions to keep it interesting for young and old alike. It's obviously way more tactical than strategic, but that's for the better with kids games.5. Fun!: It all comes together in a fun package. There's just enough "take that" (you can drop an opponents dino right in front of a T-Rex... or move a T-Rex to eat up your opponent's dino) but it's never mean, as a game like Battle Sheep can be. Revealing what is underneath your grass tokens is fun as well. It's enjoyable. The only negative is that it's two-player only; they say you can play in "teams," but it's not like there is a team variant - you're just playing the exact same way, but with a team of people making the decisions vs. a single person.Overall, this is a great choice if a 2-player family game is what you seek. Great package that would make a fantastic gift, too. Highly recommended from this gamer!
