Fabulous book, essential reading for all Leeds fans
A fantastic book containing references to all things Leeds United and, in particular, Elland Road. For those who have dedicated countless Saturdays to watching Leeds home games this book will bring back umpteen memories. Remember the Boys' Pen, the old floodlights, Pen 4 and the West Stand frontage? Have you enjoyed your pre-match pint(s) at the Peacock, the Drysalters? The book is fantastically researched and the author has found former United staff from years back.Whilst the book is primarily about the ground it also reminds us of the football there. A picture of Brendan Ormsby celebrating a late winner against QPR in the 1987 cup run is iconic to those of us (small in number) who followed the club at the time. The author, incidentally, worked his way into the ground for free that day. In a case of poacher-turned-gamekeeper he later became a turnstile operator at ER.The book uses extensive aerial photography to show the ground and its environs which is fascinating to see prior to the arrival of the M621 in the 1970's. As an engineer I found it fascinating to see photos of the Kop and the West Stand being constructed.David Batty regales us with tales of him buying Billy Bremner's cigarettes and John Sheridan's egg & bacon butties as he looked after the fine athletes of the day.The hooliganism of the 1970's & 1980's is mentioned with a print of the infamous programme cover against Charlton in 1982 berating the club's fans for their conduct.Overall the reader is reminded of the piecemeal development of the ground since the 1960's, the lack of vision by the board which counteracted Don Revie's plans in the 1970's and the lasting effect of the various structures on the ER today.Older Leeds fans will love this book. For younger ones, who might query terms such as "Pen 4", "Boys' Pen" or "turnstile operator", this book provides a glimpse into yesteryear. Finally, consider watching top-flight football in a seat for £2.50 in 1982 or seeing Queen live at ER for £9 in the same year. How times have changed.

Great to actually dive in and read and also to just pick up and look at all the pictures and have a quick glance over.Covers everything from when the Peacock pub originally opened right up to the present day and the foreword by David Batty reminded me of what it means to be a Leeds fan!Really glad I bought it and will be something I can treasure forever.

Weighty but interesting
This was a Christmas present for my husband. I have looked at it more than he has. It isn't a book to sit and read from cover to cover. The passages I have read have been interesting and entertaining and the photos are great.
