Found this better than the winsor newton alkyd primer. Excellent non absorbent and matte finish for oil paints

Good product overall but it had formed skin on top about a centimeter thick which had to be thrown away. Watch out for manufacturing date. Don't buy too old

Instead of buying an oil primed canvas, buy this to prime a gesso canvas or to replace the use of gesso. Much cheaper alternative and good results. I do several panels at the same time using a paint knife and foam roller. Give them a week to dry.

I've tried other methods for preparing my surfaces for oil painting, but I come back to this because it simply provides a better surface.

Excellent foundation for oil painting.

To coat purchased oil prepared art canvas with at least one, maybe more coats of primer. This helps to keep oil colors from sinking into the canvas as they are painted, thus keeping the finished paint colors much brighter.

NEVER USING “GESSO” AGAIN this ground is archival quality. For those who don’t know how to use it: mix some of this lovely thick ground with a splash of gamsol well, it should run a little like paint. Apply to the center of the canvas and then brush out in a burst from middle to the outer sides NOT with a brush but with stiff cards like all that junk mail you get at home! Let it dry, can do more layers. When you take the time to mix it well you get a beautifully smooth finish.
