Alexa+lightbulb changed my life!
The media could not be loaded. Â Little backstory - I work full time from home and have a fully-functional office. After assembling and placing my desk and all my equipment where it needed to go, I realized that ALL of the plug ins on that side of the room are controlled by the lightswitch! That means if I want to shut off the light, my 3 computer monitors, ring light, speakers, alexa, TV, phone charger, webcam, microphone, AND MORE will not work. So each time I turn it off, it's a complete shutdown.I purchased this lightbulb as an addition to my Alexa and my life has changed. I taped my light switch in the ON position - and put the lightbulb in the fixture. NOW I can leave my work gear on - and control the lights separately! (See video) If you have this problem, Alexa and her lightbulbs will change your life!If this review helped you - please leave a thumbs-up!(I was not paid or incentivized in any way to give this review. I purchased this product with my own hard-earned money!)

WTH A WHITE CORD???
Don’t care for the looks compared to Gen 3 Dots. And a WHITE CORD for a dark charcoal device? Are you kidding me???? All 4 are going back to Amazon! What fool puts a white cord with a nearly black device? Amazon needs to fire whoever decided on that and start over! DISAPPOINTED!!!!

Sound quality stinks!
The sound quality really is awful. Music sounds mono and not stereo. I bought it because I thought it would sound better than my 3rd gen dot, it did not. This 4th gen sounds like a cheap speaker, I found out after I purchased that they make a "premium sound" version that looks exactly the same. I feel duped, luckily I ordered another 3rd gen before they sold out on sale. I will replace this 4th gen with that 3rd gen. Also, it has trouble hearing commands. The unit comes with an ugly white cord even though the speaker is black, what is up with that Amazon? I would recommend either get a 3rd gen or buy the premium sound version. I also don't like that the light ring is at the bottom.

Amazon's always listening
With the onslaught of bluetooth speakers coming from both Google, Amazon, and other big named companies which are all competing for the smart home conversion, this can be overwhelming to choose. Like, really, what's best for your ears, your family and company?Alexa, that's who. But, I'm a biased fan boy. So remember that. For my smart home I chose Amazon as my primary converter. Fire stick, blink security, Echo Hub, the echo show for face calls, Kindle, Tablet, Echo Buds and works with smart bulbs. There isn't much of anything that the Echo Development teams haven't thought of. This device was the first step in making my house a smart home, though, even though I didn't think about it at first.Portable speakers (with wifi), calculator, someone to tell your dad jokes, or just make fart noises, this device has it with Alexa. With customization to wake words (Computer, Alexa, Echo, etc) and pairing of multiple dots to an Echo hub in a multiroom can provide for some amazing surround sound. Seriously.Alexa is kind of like the middle man of making your home smart. She acts as the computer, and communicator to you and your home. I use my Echo Dot every day, playing music all the time. For individual listening, I would recommend Echo Buds for that private concert.I would recommend volume level 3 or 4 for a medium sound. For a party, you may need an two Echo Dots and a Hub for a large room. 1 and 2 settings are perfect for a meditating experience, or just soft background noise depending on what your listening too.Amazon's music library has literally 20,000,000 songs to choose from; and ad free with 3d audio for those interested in Amazon Unlimited and HD. That's essential to ANYONE who loves listening to music all day, every day. Not to mention, if you don't wanna use Amazon HD, or Amazon in general, you are still able to set up Spotify as you're primary library/archive of music. That way, you don't have to start all over by liking, disliking and setting up new playlists for your road trips or work out sessions.5/5 for awesome sound5/5 voice recognition5/5 easy installation5/5 smart home device.4th generation Echo Dot really blasts the hell out of all previous models, including sound output, style and variance in both Child and Adult, with variety in colors.Con:Cable could use a different color other than black or white, because this would allow "what cable goes to what." Otherwise, this is a really small complaint comparing to what you're really getting.

A few steps forward, a couple back, but YMMV
My 3rd generation learned my voice much quicker and made fewer weird errors, ie playing "My Way" by Sinatra when I asked it to play "Rosin The Bow" by The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makam. It also mixes up the home integration lights turns on the wrong one or off but that is getting better slowly. It sets up easier than my second generation ones, which I moved to less used rooms. It sounds quite nice and has a better range to hear commands. I am fairly happy with it but I wish it would learn my voice more quickly, that is a bit of a step backwards. It might be my Southern accent which is a mix of Virginian and South Carolina's Old English District.

AWESOME, simply AWESOME
Great product, I think😂😅, my girlfriend thinks it’s funny to leave me reminders on it, so before I go to work I hit the kitchen for my coffee, load in the lunch and during this I’m being reminded of things I need to do today, on top of my 10hour work day and 2 hour commute😂😅🤣, gotta love technology, great product, integrate some home smart things and your set, must have for all homes, go ahead buy one, you will thank me for this review later🤣😅😂, ENJOY

So far so good. New to us.
Would have given 5 stars, but I chose the black ball for a reason it is going on a dark table. Why would I want a white power cord on a dark table.Black ball with a white cord is very noticeable. Black ball black cable, white ball white cable.

Would be good if it worked and listened right
Would be nice if they listened correctly and not have to give them the same command 20 times till you finally say f it and go do it on the app as their voice recognition software is junk. Always submitting feed back no improvements.

Great for my blind mother
I'm not very techy, so I am having problems figuring out how to get it to play music and podcasts, but it handles the light really well and is perfect as an alarm clock. For being with vision impairment, it is great.

Very handy to have
Fun to use. The speaker isn’t as good as the Echo Show, but it’s still crisp and clear. Useful to have for asking random questions. A little creepy sometimes in asking questions, which makes me feel like it’s always listening. But what isn’t, with all the tech around us?
