Diy Air cleaner for round fan.
I thought this was supposed to be washable but an after letter said not to wash it.I’m using this on the back of a fan to help clean room air. My fan back is round.and domed so i thought this would work better than strapping on a spare a/c filter. I cut out and sewed together on my sewing machine round piece for the face and a long rectangular piece for the side. Once I put it on I realized I could’ve probably just drape the material over there without sewing anything because it doesn’t come off when the fan is on. Or just tied it on to the sides of the stand with split excess on the fabric sides. It is hard to tell which side faces out. I thought the cotton a looking side should face unfiltered air but then read an after letter that said The micro embossed side should face the unfiltered air. So I made mine backwards and then had to turn it around. There’s enough service to make several of them.I have a traditional HEPA filter in my house air-conditioning but the weather where I live is so good most of the year that I almost never run the AC and often have wndows open. The problem with that is the outside air is not so wonderful here,

Great filter for pocket type masks
I have been using this as the filter in homesewn, cloth face masks, in-between the cloth layers. With the fit I have on my masks, this filter is excellent for additional protection. Buyers need to understand that this material is super static, with a fabric feel of thick, expensive toilet paper. It cannot be sewn on a sewing machine as a mask material, not what it is designed for. This is an insertable filter. You will want a different material layer on top and under. Works excellent in pocket type masks, and stays put. Dispose of filter after. Love it!!!

This is not suitable for intake air vent filters a on vehicle.
This is a very thin spun bonded plastic fiber. You can barely blow through it. It can be torn easily with your fingers. It is not suitable for cabin intake air filters on a vehicle. It would not work for air vent cover/filters in a building either - too much resistance to air flow. I really don't know what if would be useful for, it's so thin and easily torn and hard to get air through. In all fairness it is exactly as described and you do get a bunch of it for the money spent, I just ordered the wrong stuff for my application.

Blocks Airflow
The filter material feels closer to a sheet of plastic than a fluffy air filter. It’s also delicate and tears easily. I use filter material like this on the cold air intake of the house. This product just does not work as advertised.

Merv 16, Best Mask Filter Material
The testing stats are printed right on the package and match the sellers description and the seller sends a 'suggested use' email I found helpful as well as their answers to questions above. This fabric seems to surpass the filtering capacity of the available masks today, but only good design and fit will yield optimal filtering results. You must breathe 'through' the filter for it to work, not around it.After buying and sewing many different versions of masks I realized you need a filter; fabric alone doesn't cut it. The electrostatic charge of this wonderful filter fabric makes it hard to insert into a replaceable filter mask, plus there's a bit of leakage around the perimeter of the filter in that type of design. So, I settled on a throw-away 3-piece, sewn together mask with this filter as the inner layer. (Lot's of fabric on hand. let's use it...)All three layers - the outside fabric, inner face liner fabric and filter fabric - are cut from the same full-size pattern and cover the entire face.Filter and inner face liner are sewn together along the center-line and the seam-line sealed. Then sew the face fabric to the filter/inner face liner pieces.Turn it right-side-out, add stiff nose wire, sew the perimeter, add 5/16" elastic head-loops and nose foam.Best mask out there.I cannot smell bacon cooking nor the dog run when I'm wearing it :)I've been using 3M 8210 for thirty years as a woodworker and cannot get them now. All other mask designs I get wood dust in my nose yielding a fail. With my 3 layer masks I'm getting even better results the the 3M (according to my nose).Note: some of the 'better' fabrics out there are very fine woven and are a bit hard to breathe through. I rely on this filter material to do the job, not the fabric. Thinner 'cheaper' fabrics seem to work best. The fabric is in reality a pretty 'filter holder'. 100% cotton of course. The only reason I'd deduct a star - which I will not - is the fabric comes folded and the folds look pretty hard. I don't trust the folded parts as my filter. Consequentially, I cut them into the rectangles they were folded into. I get one mask per rectangle. Still a lot of masks however rolled material would be preferred as there would be less waste. In order to achieve the best fit, each member of the family has their own custom fit pattern and they are getting fine tuned as we go.Thank you for helping us stay safe with this killer Merv 16 filter material!!

A really aggressive electrostatic filter
I found that this filter is so electrostatic aggressive, that it attracts particles as you cut and form it. Be sure to follow instructions and wash your hands. The filter material is very thin for a MERV16+ filter. This is both good and bad. Because of its density, it tends to restrict airflow unless your filter area is large. This shouldn't be a problem with most cloth masks. Also, due to its density it holds together and cuts cleanly, making it very simple to make the required mask shape. The thinness also prevents retaining expelled breath, thereby allowing more fresh air to the wearer. Also, a ball-point pen marks it very well. Trace the mask and cut the filter 1/8" inside the line traced. I sew the nose together on a machine, but leaving a little extra and overlapping it minimally should also work.In order to reduce contamination of the surface, I generally sew my own filters for custom masks, by purchasing polypropylene 3-layer mask material in bulk and replacing the thin inner filter layer with this material. Then I stitch the edges and nose to form the cup that goes over the nose and mouth. This I find also allows easier insertion between the cloth layers which are really only a cover. You get a lot of material and each lot is tested with a test results sticker on the bag. The aluminized bag is heat sealed and airtight. There is enough room in the bag to store the unused material.Recommended.
