Great album! It really grew on me The music touches so many styles it never gets dull. I rate it just a bit under the "masterpiece" first release "Mercator Projected" and way above "Snafu". I was tptally disappointed with that one.

excellent
Ok, so evidently, as per my reviewer friends, this is not an album you buy from Amazon: the track listing here is wrong. But if you can find the album that has the tracks listed here, I strongly advise it.The album as such is a fantastic mix of country, blues and prog. The songs are self contained, and the sax and violin combo East Of Eden used really make this music work: it is not prog in the extended suite sense, but the unique combonations of instruments and the jazzy solos make this highly gripping music,The highlight: "Crazy Daisy," a pungent hard rock jazz jam that alone makes the album worth seeking

Kiwi R&R legend Graham Brazier
It all started while looking for "Sea Of Heartbreak" by Don Gibson on YOUTUBE when I decided to click on the video post by GRAHAM BRAZIER. Like everything else in Life it's either hit or miss, right? Quite truthfully I had never heard of this Kiwi singer/musician/songwriter before but after doing some research on him and the bands he's fronted, in particular *HELLO SAILOR* I was totally taken by his sound. "GUTTER BLACK" is a massive hit Down Under and would have been here in the USA had the NZ band toured America. This entire CD "EAST OF EDEN" has absolutely no filler material taking up space it is ALL bloody brilliant music and words. The guy is just something else! Starting with the cool cut "Long Gone For Good" to a very captivating "Greylands" on to what I feel is a classic R&R jam "Daughter Of Angelique" (you'll hit repeat for this song) then there's the bouncy Ponsonby feel-good "In Your Company" followed by one of the most wistful and beautifully haunting melodies I've ever heard in my 57 years, a ballad called "Closing Time"...Wait for THE BRAZZ MAN to tell the story of "Mr Asia" someone a good many old hippies from the late `60's might identify with if not know. Also the CD title song "EAST OF EDEN" it's just so artiscally witty and hip. Living taxi distance to NYC I've seen more Concerts at MSG and the Bottom Line etc. these past forty years and all I can say is that this veritable Kiwi legend will simply revitalize your love and enjoyment of good old R&R music. Like Luciano Pavarotti said "You don't have to speak Italian in order to like Opera. Just OPEN your ears!"..."EAST OF EDEN" try it ~ you'll like it.

Wrong tracklisting
This CD is not really bad. Dating from 1989 it appears to be still influenced by the new wave sounds, especially the more pop oriented ones, of that decade. The band sounds like an American edition of Til Tuesday, although they lack their melodic creativity. Further, the female singer's voice cannot really compete with TT's Aimee Mann. The most important point I want to make is that the track listing is wrong. It is the track listing of the self titled third album of the British band 'East of Eden' that became produced the albums Mercator Projected (1969) and Snafu (1970) and are known to a wider audience for their hit single Jig-A-Jig.I received this CD for free, because it had been misrepresented as the other album just described and a refund was issued because of the error. So far the error has only partly been corrected: Different ASIN and correct cover picture, but the track listing is still wrong.I would really not have liked to pay much more for it and being able to choose between enough good CDs in my collection chances are very low that it will see the interior of my CD player again, unless for a demonstration of this funny catalogue feature.

Very good CD and Band.

Okay I guess.
A new incarnation of the band on the new label. Most of the music is fair rising to the odd high point like Wonderful Feeling which remained in their set list for some years.

Old cult music
I had the LP but sold it when I found I could have this on CD. I love two or three of the tracks, but the rest are just wallpaper.

It's ok, but it's not great
Not the best East of Eden record (try Mercator Projected), but still consistent and worth having. For prog heads who have extra bucks to spend.
