Spider-Man (Full Screen Special Edition)

My favorite Spiderman ever
Wil aways be my favorite Spider-Man. The first Spiderman got it right. The struggle of Peter Parker trying to be Spiderman and have a regular life. And Toby Maguire he didn’t excellent job of showing that struggle. The second Spiderman series was well done, but in my opinion missed the mark on that always conscious struggle Peter went through to have a regular life. The new Spiderman, although adorable, is completely on relatable to the real Peter Parker and has way too much high and gadgetry that in my opinion does not make him Spiderman anymore. One of the cool things about superheroes Like Spiderman or the black widow, Or nighthawk, who is completely underrated in my opinion, was that none of them had superpowers likely others. Granted Spiderman had a few skills that or a little above human skills but nothing over powered. They had their wit they had their skills and they were never over powered like the Hulk or Thor. The new Marvel movies have taken that all away and changed all of the characters from the roots of their origin movies. Makes me sad because I no longer enjoy the movies. But I always have the original superman, and the original Captain America, and the original Iron Man, the very first avengers, these are my staples as what came after wasn’t very good

2002 Spider Man is the best Spider Man. ❤️💙🕷
This movie never seems to disappoint. Tobey Maguire Spider Man is the best Spider Man. The Amazing Spider Man movies don't hold a candle to this one. Call me biased from growing up on this movie when I was 5, but this movie is still great. And okay, it started the whole "superhero movie" craze, but it's STILL one of the highest grossing superhero movies ever, even now. Out of all of the Spider Man movies, this one is the most faithful to the comic books and is fun, action packed, and romantic all at once. One of the best superhero movies ever. If you haven't seen it, you're missing out.

1st and best of the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies
This was the first iteration of the Spider-Man comic into film. It was produced by Sam Raimi and of the three films that he did it is far and away the best. The first part of the story borrows directly from the comic books, specifically Amazing Adventures #15 which first introduced the character. Parker is bit by a spider that gives him powers. He decides to test them out by fighting a wrestler. After the match he doesn’t stop a thief who later murders his Uncle Ben. That’s all from the comic. The death of his uncle inspired Parker to become a super hero and his main foe is the Green Goblin. His scenes are some of the best as they utilize Raimi’s background in horror. For instance, the first time Norman Osborne realizes he’s become the Goblin it comes as a quick flashback that’s like a nightmare. Later the Goblin is taking over his personality and comes like a haunting. The action scenes were also well done.Movie also has just the right mix of Parker and his love MJ. Later films really dragged that out to the detriment of the story.C

Wonderful superhero story
Excellent performances in this wonderful installment in the superhero legacy. Great special effects that aren't overbearing. Set in NYC, you'll love seeing familiar landmarks in this action packed adventure.

A superhero done right (on a good DVD)
"Spiderman"- a film eighteen years in arriving according to the director's commentary - is worth waiting for. Rather than give a long-winded, hard to follow review, I'll keep to the highlights -Just perfect:1) The movie itself. Director Sam Raimi (of "Evil Dead", "A Simple Plan", "Darkman", "Xena", and "Hercules" fame) nails the film dead-on. The look and feel of the settings, the choices of shots, the comic book feel, and editing are top notch. He manages to draw out the best in the characters and the actors who play them. As is noted several times in the commentary tracks, Raimi chose characterizations over action, and I believe that is what separates "Spiderman" from so many other films in the Action genre. The characters are real and people you can identify with.2) Casting and acting. Fans groaned at some of the casting choices, but the actors were perfect. Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker is magnificent, capturing the difficult inner conflicts of the character. The final scene in which his inner dialog plays out perfectly matches the subtle expression changes on his face. Kirsten Dunst was a concern for me as Mary Jane, but brought a lively interpretation to the role. Willem Dafoe looks like a villain, even without a mask, but still was warm when his character was meant to be sympathetic. J.K. Simmons was born to be J. Jonah Jameson, the gruff newspaper head. And Cliff Robertson and Rosemary Harris were spot on perfect as Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Simply wonderful casting.3) The DVD. It's crisp and lively with a host of additional features. In particular were pop-up balloons that would give info during the film, two commentary tracks - one from the directing team and one from the visual effects team, background on the Spiderman comic book (villains, loves, etc.), and some outtakes and screen tests. My only disappointment in the screen tests was the lack of tests that featured actors who didn't get the parts. That you never see this anyway - must be a contractual thing - on other discs doesn't make this lack unusual, only missed.4) Sound. The DVD's sound options were pleasantly distinct. The dialog boost option worked wonderfully, much better than on some other DVDs I've seen.5) Faithfulness to the source. Best of all, the movie itself is true to the comic. They felt little need to mess around with the history of Spiderman. There are a few modifications, but they are unobtrusive and make sense. Thank you for not screwing Spiderman fans!Mixed:1) Spotty visual effects. Some of the CG effects looked like CG effects. The run across the rooftops was stilted. Others were brilliant. Case in point, the battle scene in the burning apartment. The commentary by the visual effects team noted that the CG of Spiderman avoiding weapons thrown by the Green Goblin fooled everyone, even other effects team members. Additionally, the commentary noted hundreds of spots where CG work was used that went completely unnoticed by me and certainly other viewers. That these were so seamless speaks well of the effects crew. Now if other parts can only be fixed up for the next film....2) Deleted scenes. The visual effects team made note of hundreds of effects and scenes that were left on the cutting room floor. However, the DVD lacks a set of deleted scenes. In particular it was noted that the final confrontation was cut down considerably. It would have been nice to see those scenes. I guess they are being held for a box set once the series has run its course.Poor:1) DVD navigation. It's remarkably poor. Tiny glowing lights highlighted sections of the navigation. On some TVs they might be impossible to see. Too subtle to be helpful. You might think you got stuck in a section of features, but the system is working. Several people told me they had problems with the subtle changes in the navigation, too.All in all, one of the best superhero movies (and accompanying DVDs) to hit the market since "Superman II". Definitely worth the cost to buy if you are a fan of action and superheroes.

An average start for the web slinger
Unlike a lot of people, I wasn't really blown away by the first Spider-Man film, mainly due to what I feel was a large miscasting of actors. Tobey Maguire just doesn't click for me as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and he lacks chemistry with Kirsten Dunst who I also felt was miscast as Mary Jane. The only stand out was J.K. Simmons as Parker's boss at the Daily Bugle J. Jonah Jameson, who is just outstanding in the role. This film also hasn't aged very well compared to other movies released at the time. The special effects are very unrealistic, and the design of the Green Goblin suit was atrocious. If you have never seen a Spider-Man film before, I would personally recommend The Amazing Spider-Man, which is easily the best acted of the movies. But if I were to recommend one of the Sam Rami movies, I suggest you watch Spider-Man 2, which is a vast improvement on the first film.

Amzing price, condition and shipping times for a really awesome movie.
At first I was a bit worried as the price seemed ridiculously cheap at only £2.70, but I'm really happy to say I had no need to worry. It came brand new in the package, in perfect condition and with both discs. It also came much faster than it said it would, arriving in around 5 days. Amazing price, quality and delivery time.As for the movie itself, it was excellent. A must watch for any spider man fan. I think it still holds up really well today even though it was made in 2002.I'm super happy it easily deserves 5 stars.

Its a great film
I like this better than the new version. In particular, the Green Goblin is every bit a mad and scarey as he is in the comics...I don't know what they were thinking with the current rendition of the GB in the ASM2 film, that was so naf. I think even the comic book fans get up themselves too much and believe these films need to take themselves seriously, but, for me, the fun is in the very comic book nature of it. Bring on the bright spangly custumes....note to the makers of the Avengers movie, PLEASE SORT OUT FALCON'S AND HAWKEYES CUSTOME... What is the point of a superhero if they don't have a custom, they just look like SWAT extras...rubbish, put them in their proper outfits!

The Legacy of an American Culture
The casting : excellentCGI : acceptableCamera work : excellentSoundtrack : very goodPlot : pure comics brought on wide screen. So for those who like it, it's great.Script : simplistic yet effectiveThe film : An American and enjoyable entertainment... and the American flag does not appear !Spiderman 2 is way better than the first, but to get there, you'll need to have a look at the whole trilogy. The second dvd contains two sections, the comics and the film making, which is clear and clever. It looks that it could fit in the first dvd though. It's a good work. I guess this realistic superhero got a fair version of adventure... till the next Spiderman version !
