An 8yo Boy's Review
Q: How many stars?A: ALL OF THEM.Q: What did you like best?A: I liked the Pegasus. And the dragon. (Chimera) The dragon looked cool. And I liked the little knight-warrior that got rid of the big dragon-serpent-whatever-it-is. (Bellerophon)Q: What was the worst part?A: There was no worst part.Q: What do you wish the book told you more about?A: Where the Pegasus came from and how the dragon (chimera) was made and that kind of stuff. IT'S SO AWESOME!(Note: I hadn't read the book before I gave it to him, so I had assumed it was about Pegasus and Perseus, the blood of Medusa, and all that, so those were the sorts of questions I started asking him when he finished reading. But this book is strictly about Pegasus and Bellerophon and the Chimera, and skips all the messy details of Bellerophon's backstory, and cuts out while Bellerophon was still happily-ever-after. One oddly post-Disney-animal-sidekick-modern part was that Athena dictated that Bellerophon and Pegasus must be as equals in order to succeed in their task, and later on, they "had become brothers, bonded by a trust that neither could ever forget." But KY Craft's art is beautiful and worth the purchase of the book by itself.)

Incredible artwork
This is a solid adaptation of an ancient tale. Engrossing enough that it keeps all four of our kids interested and wanting to return to it time and again. Yet what really sets this book apart is the amazing artwork. Every page deserves to be hanging in an art gallery, and you could get lost for hours exploring the details and beauty. A must-have for any collection.

"An Exquisite Work of Art"
My 12 year old daughter discovered this book in the library and thought she was in heaven. We had no idea that books like this even existed. Not many parents in our area are even aware of them and they are not often signed out of the library. I feel so appreciative that there is a writer like Marianna Mayer and an illustrator the caliber of Kinuko Craft out out there creating such beautiful "works of art" for children. Pegasus can be appreciated by older children (and adults) because the language is elegant and sophisticated. The sumptuous illustrations are beneficial to children who are visual learners. Amazon is offering this book, with dust jacket, at an amazingly low price. Although Mayer/Craft are at the top of her list, she has also discovered other illustrators such as Ruth Sanderson and Gennady Spirin who Amazon brought to her attention after we ordered books by Mayer/Craft.

Kinuko Craft makes books magical
I have a collection of story books illustrated by Kinuko Craft because she makes every page magical. The illustrations are epic and memorable and really bring the narrative to life. This one is no exception.

Clear and beautifully illustrated depiction of a good-v-evil story
Pegasus is drawn here just as I've always imagined him, and the Chimera is a perfect nightmare beast. This is a very clear story of good vs. evil, with the handsome, daring, and successful Bellerophon (spoiler!) defeating the clearly very evil Chimera (previously shown burning people's homes with his fiery breath). A very satisfying story with lots of drama, excellent for children.

Great book.
Absolutely beautiful illustrations in this book. Recommend for ages 2-16 because of the artwork. Reading level is about 3-4 th grade. Interesting retelling of the tale of Pegasus from the ancient Greeks.

Fantastic book
Excellent! The paintings in this children's book are museum-ready. They were done by a Japanese artist named K. Craft and they are strongly influenced by the pre-Raphaelite paintings of Dante Rosetti and J. W. Waterhouse. The only small complaint that I have about this story from the Greek myth is that the printing is a bit small. Other than that it's excellent.

Not For Small Children
I collect well illustrated children's books and read to young children. Art captures the attention of young budding readers and draws them into a well illustrated story. Unlike Marianna Mayers "Unicorn and the Lake", this book is not easily understood by children under ten. While the illustrations will indeed capture the attention of children and adults alike, small children lose interest when they cannot understand the names, and many of the words. These types of stories I feel make children frustrated. The only way a child may enjoy this story is by reading one-on-one and explaining every detail. Even this method would be acceptable if it were a story worth reading. The story is complicated but the same old story we see and read about every day - two young people fall in love, parent disapproves, the young man must prove himself, the young man wins, etc., etc. Not a story for children really. The tale includes a woman who weeps for her lost child by a river, a two headed monster, and kings. The only reason I did not return this book is the art. Pegasus is illustrated with grand detail. The white color of his body is accomplished using many pastel colors and lots of shadows. There is a rainbow in his mane. I am using this book to demonstrate to children interested in drawing with colored pencils, how to make white, shadows and the importance of nature. The story can wait.

Beautiful illustrations
I would never have chosen this book as my child is only 4 but she was so fascinated by the beautiful illustrations that I ended up buying the book. It has since been our gateway to the Greek myths. Her nursery friends like the book too (again, the lovely illustrations). I'm now buying a second copy as a gift for a 5 year old who loves my copy.
