Four Stars
decent fish finder for less than 100 dollars, i am installing on a 14 foot lund aluminum boat mainly wanted something to show depth and water temp, picture is decent and clear, i fish a lot of smaller lakes and using for for find variation in structure, simple to install. I found the item a bit cheaper than amazon but for a 5 or 6 dollar difference i ordered through Amazon because of good customer service i have had over the years

Easy to install
Easy to install. I did not put the transducer on outside. Epoxied to inside hull. Works as designed. I just use it for depth cabbing in Puget sound. Good inexpensive unit.

Perfect for kayak fishing.
perfect size for being mounted on my kayak for fishing. works great and is VERY low battery draw. I have ran it for 38 hours continuous and it only dropped the voltage .6 volts. It's not let me down and i'm very happy with buying it.

Notorious for being wildly inaccurate
Reads 15 feet when the depth is less than 4'. Famous for this. Avoid at all costs.I'm throwing mine away.

Great buy for a Palm Beach inshore fisherman
Great buy for a Palm Beach inshore fisherman. It does much more but I mainly use it for depths, water temps and bottom graphics.

Perfect for reading depth and temp from small boat.
Took it out today and mounted it to my trolling motor. it ran beautifully. i wasn't using it to find fish i was just using it for depth, temp, and finding structure. unfortunately the lake i was in was very basic with no structure and hardly bait fish. but it did mark a few small schools of bait fish and i left all the settings on default. might tweak them a little and see if it improves it but i was totally happy with the functions it provided. The screen is a little small so if you are hard of seeing i would suggest the 4x over this 3x and honestly i may upgrade myself but thats not because this one isnt good but because i like larger screens hints my giant phone screen.

It's alright for $90
Nice compact little fish/depth finder. I bought this for my Field and Stream kayak. Only thing I don't like is it will not read if the water is under 3'.

Novice and experienced sonar users will be frustrated with this sonar
Lowrance was once a quality sonar, the Hook-3X does not measure up in several ways. First the operations documentation that came with the unit was useless. Fortunately I have 3 Hummingbird sonars in roughly the same price range so I have other sonar options. I did an online search for a more complete operations manual. No luck so I took the unit fishing and resorted to guessing how to tune it in while it operated. W/O fish I'd on, I did not see a single target arch. When I put fish I'd on, there were fish everywhere on the screen but they were located at exactly 1/2 the bottom depth. I was fishing Speckled trout in 30 feet and the fish were being I'd on the screen at 15 feet. These were phantom fish and I have seen this before. On my Hummingbird sonars, when this happens, I reduce the "sensitivity " setting to eliminate the phantom fish. So on my Lowrance I set the sensitivity on "auto" ...still phantoms! I then "manually" reduced the sensitivity to 50 percent.....still phantoms. So I have turned fish I'd off. I tried the 200 KHz now several times, in deep water and also shallow. Both time I got a screen full of undeciferable images....sort of like static. So the 200 setting is useless. This brings me back to documentation such as a good operations manual. In sum, sonars can be a challenge to tune in to help find fish. The Hook-3X is a challenge and the product documentation is useless.

not sure this is better..
so far it's been .. marginal. compared it to my old one.. in the same area... not sure this is better...... and i Like the feature of fish alert that this one doesn't have... a beep when fish are near... so that's why the 2 , for the price.. you don't get a lot pretty basic

So - so
Clear screen, works not bad but lake depths jump all over to 600 plus feet once I get into 40 to 60 feet of water.
