501 Decorating Ideas Under $100 (Better Homes and Gardens Home)

I love this book. Aesthetically, it is packed with photos for inspiration that are numbered to align with the accompanying write-ups. But instead of giving lengthy & detailed how-tos on copying ideas, it gives short paragraphs with brief directions. In other words, the ideas are stylish and effective, but it gives just enough info for reader to use him/herself without being weighted down with cumbersome, useless directions.. I also like that tons of the ideas in this book repurpose things many, if not most, of us have in our homes--making it ideal for someone on a budget--at any age.Some of the more creative ideas contained are: covering a spindle headboard with a beautiful woven rug, clipped and tied to spindles with ribbon ...photocopying a colorful quilt, which is then cut into a dog's profile and mounted on a white plate to hang ... and one of my favorites, spraying river rocks with different metallic paints, letting the rock portions show through, and piling in a metal basket.Whether you're looking to decorate on a budget, or are just seeking fresh ideas for your own home, I recommend this book highly.

Just like knowing which yard sale looks like the one you should stop for, a random look through this book shows you that you made the right decision to buy it. I was busy when it arrived so just thumbed through it and was immediately intrigued. Each person stops at a different kind of yard sale, so this book may not meet your expectations but I love it. There are so many odds and ends around my house that haven't made it to the local thrift store (because I probably bought them there) and almost every page showed a possibility of fitting it in. It may not get done but this is a fun book to show what can be done when I get in the mood. A relaxing fun book with many of the 501 ideas just for me. And at under $100, even more fun!

This was helpful in that it stimulated my creative side and spurred me to think more creatively about my space, however, I found the specific ideas laid out in this book fit only the narrowest of style margins. There is a ton of material supporting the shabby chic style, the modern cottage style, and even a little bit of the kitschy stuff, but that's about it. I found little to promote clean modern room design, architectural styles, etc. But if you like what you see on the cover and in the preview, then your in for a treat, because there's a LOT more where that came from. Nevertheless, the creativity displayed in the ideas is quite encouraging and really motivates you to start looking at things in a new way, and that is pretty cool. In the end I'm not sorry I purchased it, but it wasn't quite all I was hoping for.

I first borrowed this book from my local library. After I put a sticky note on half the pages to mark a great idea before I even finished half the book, I knew I was going to have to buy the darn thing. There are so many creative, DIY ideas in this book. It shows so many different styles that anyone could find something to like and easily adapt it to one's own color/pattern/design preferences. While it only has a few step-by-step instructions for some of the ideas, I like that it includes resources for a majority of what's in the pictures.I've been looking for good, AFFORDABLE ideas to help me redecorate my small condo, and this book has really got my creative juices flowing! If you are looking for ideas to help you put the finishing touch on any room in your home, this is a fantastic book to have!

If you haven't purchased Better Homes and Gardens periodical magazines with a similar title, this is a great buy. I should have figured this out because I have purchased several of the Decorating Ideas under a $100 magazines through the years and the ideas were basically repeats either directly or with new color schemes but the same ideas. It does have some clever ideas and many are very inexpensive, so I do recommend it if this is all new to you.

I saw this book at Barnes & Noble and knew I had to have it. I ordered it from Amazon for less than the retail price. If you love home decor and painting walls, etc. you will fall in love with this book. I look at it every night before I turn out the lights and go to bed. Every time I look through this book, I'm finding things I didn't see the day before! If you know someone who is really "into" decorating, this is the book for that person. It would make a great gift.

While I do love the designs they have in this book, I don't believe they break down the process of creating these designs well enough, especially for a novice beginner (like myself). They do have some very handy design ideas in here, like buying various items from a dollar store and turning them into chic decor. I rated it as a 3-star because it just didn't meet the intent for which I bought it. I need a beginners guide to decorating that breaks it down "Barney" style. I has potential for being a good idea starter for intermediate/expert do-it-yourself people.

I really truly love this book. As a diy, home decor, crafting nut this book was very inspirational, full of beautiful and fun ideals. Several of the projects appealed to my tastes and style. It got my creative wheels turning and enjoyed every second of reading and flipping through it, even the things that weren't "me" were still very interesting. And I like that all the projects are budget friendly a big plus for those of us on a tight budget.

The best decor book ever. Nice photos great ideas.

It's really interesting how a decorating book can still surprise you.This book made me discover lots of creative ideas I never thought about. It gives you wonderful clues... now, let's get back to work!
