Not the original version!!!
I bought this book for my grandson before he was born, because I loved reading it when I was a child. I loved the message that you could be anything you want to be. I should have read the reviews before I purchased, but I assumed it was the same book with the same animals. Nope! The original version from 1951 had 19 animals and this one only had 10 out of the original 19! The colors are muted on the newer version as well. Very disappointed when I was at his house looking for the last page that had been torn out of mine. Little did I know that much more was missing from his new one!

A short and sweet book for babies and young toddlers.
This book has lovely illustrations and a very simple story about playing make-believe. The little girl has a lot of fun pretending to be a bird, a cow, a cat, etc. My toddler always gets a smile on her face when we read this. It only takes 2 minutes. :) There's a bonus song at the end in case you are musically inclined. Fun fact: The illustrator, Mary Blair, worked for Walt Disney and was one of the key designers for the "It's a Small World" ride!

Illustrated by Mary Blair...The first female artist at Disney
Look her up! She designed the murals that the ride "It's a Small World."Small book...Great price...Great for 2-3 y/o kids.Addendum: This book is actually abridged and missing pages. Via a comment by Amazon user r4man "The full version, along with several other Golden Books she illustrated, is available in the book available here on Amazon for a very reasonable price." A Mary Blair Treasury of Golden Books R4man also mentions "If you enjoy Mary Blair's art you should visit The Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco which is currently having a special exhibit of her original art including her years as an inspiration artist for Disney as well as her work for Golden Books, advertising, etc. it will be there until September 7, 2014."Bay Area residents or summer/fall SF tourists...Hop to it!

She Can Paint, Too!
Fans of the golden age Disney films and animation in general are very familiar with the brilliant career of color genius Mary Blair, one of the most important graphic and commercial artists of the century, and some of her best work is found right here between these covers. These beautiful illustrations are among the warmest and most engaging she ever did. "I Can Fly" is one of the very earliest (and best) Golden Books, and this miniature edition seems to be complete, unlike the more common modern reprints which are severely truncated. The color reproduction isn't a hundred percent accurate, either, but unless you want to spend considerable time at the swap meets or on eBay, this is your best bet. For more about Mary Blair (as well as Golden Books hall of famer Gustav Tenggren and many others) see John Canemaker's excellent book "Before The Animation Begins". Oh, yeah, and if you're a real little kid you'll find it much easier reading than this slightly pompous review.

Wonderful book!
My grandmother gave me this book when I was a child and I now give it to my grandchildren. They love it too. My only regret is that I did not buy more, since it appears to be out of print. Hoping it will be back into print.

Very Disappointing
Since my little granddaughters were born three years ago, I've been making them giggle by saying "crunch, crunch, crunch, you're a goat out to lunch" and other phrases from a beloved book from my childhood, the title of which I couldn't recall. My son found the book, I Can Fly, by typing "Crunch, crunch, crunch," etc into the google search and came up with the right book, I Can Fly. I ordered two of them and was so disappointed when they got here and I found that half the book is missing, including the rhyme about the goat. Little Golden Books and Amazon SHOULD NOT BE SELLING THIS BOOK without a clear indication that it is abridged; that should be stated in large letters on the cover and in the Amazon description. I'm so disappointed with these books that I just tossed them in the bottom of a closet and didn't give them to my granddaughters. Phooey!

Anything missing?
I am a baby boomer, and I remember having this book read to me as a very young child. It was among my favorites, mostly because of the illustrations. I remember thinking as a child that they were so clever. BUT - I thought I remembered a page in which the little girl could be busy like a bee, and she was dressed to look like a bee. In this edition it isn't there. Is something missing or am I remembering it wrong?

Bonitas ilustraciones

I can fly
Little golden book per eccellenza, una manna per gli illustratori. Perfettamente illustrato da Mary Blair, libro con un tratto delicato, dolce e divertente; tanti colori e in lingua originale, molto molto bello.

I can fly
Storia carina, intelligente, contenuto di qualità. La rilegatura non è granché, ma dato il prezzo bassissimo non mi lamento. Spedizione Amazon sempre velocissima
