Works 99% of the time (with one test)
This is a great product if you need an app. and product to shoot remotely. I unboxed the unit used a battery pack to charge the internal battery and had it working in 15 min. I then took the product to a test shoot for an upcoming job. I had an 8' jib and 6' stand to raise the camera (canon 80d) and needed a way to see the shot and use myself as a model to see the potential of the location.I walked up to 80' away and it worked, I lost connection 2x during a 2 hour test at two locations and it reset within 1 min. This compared to Canon's wifi app and it never connected to my iphone at my home. The only negative is the speed of the ios app thumbs downloading is not very fast (when shooting quickly @1 frame a sec). I also (nitpicking here) think the medium gray gets lost a bit when you are trying to go from live view to camera mode to trigger a flash. That's one Canon issue where if you are in live view you cannot trigger a flash when triggering the shutter. You have to close the live view then shoot. This is the case using the Canon software - tethered with usb to a laptop.I'm a DIY type of person but I didn't have time to try the 40.00 option plus buying an Android tablet so I had to pay full price for this. I do wish the price was about 150, but what are you going to do? I needed to test this out for my upcoming shoot and it works as advertised.

Game changer for photography. MUST have if you are serious photographer
This is literally a game changing tool in my toolbox. Was INSANELY simple to setup and reduced my workflow by easily a half. My only MINOR complaint is video does not stream full frame. Works awesome awesome awesome! I LOVE it. I'm able to bring up shots on a bigger screen when at my photoshoots. Before I was having to tether a laptop via USB or remove the memory card and preview photos before leaving the shoot. Now I simply use the cam ranger to control the camera, then the photo comes up on a large tablet screen (or my laptop wirelessly) and I can preview IMMEDIATELY. I can also setup my tripod and the shot, test my speedlights and see how the shot turned out immediately. Like I said cut my workflow easily in HALF.

Worth every penny!
This product deserves 5 stars. It works great. 3 days after I bought our first one, I ordered a second one. My wife and I have been both using them quite a lot. I know that a lot of people are recommending buying the TP-Link 3040 router, but the app that controls your camera through the CamRanger is awesome. You control the focus, ISO, exposure, frame rate, focus mode. It like having your camera right in front of you with a much larger screen! Every accessory you buy for photography is expensive and somewhat over priced. I don't think the CamRanger is that expensive for what you get.We have wanted to remotely control our cameras for a long time, but our 5D's MKIII's and 7D MKII's do not have Wi-Fi. We were actually considering getting 2 6D's, just for the Wi-Fi capability. $300 to get this capability via the CamRanger, is a lot better than $1600 each for the 6D's.Now, after saying all that - there could be some improvements and enhancements to the CamRanger, but I can live without them.1.) One would almost always want to shoot in AV exposure mode for changing light conditions and to control the depth of field. it would be nice if the CamRanger showed the shutter speed that the camera is selecting instead of a grey-out button that says Auto Shutter. If the shutter speed gets too slow, a change to ISO is needed, but you don't know when that happens.2.) It would be nice to have an option to not have the images automatically downloaded to your OS device, to save time. As long as the images are on my card, I am happy with not seeing thumbnails on my OS device.3.) You can touch the screen on the OS device and the CamRanger will focus your camera on that spot. However, when you are shooting in portrait orientation, the image appears as if it needs rotated counter clockwise. I discovered that you can do this by rotating the image with 2 fingers. However, I think the CamRanger thinks the image is still in landscape mode because when you touch the image to refocus it can't find the focus. But if you rotate the image back to landscape it works perfectly.4.) The unit needs to auto power off when not connected. If you stop using it and forget to slide the switch, it will be out of juice the next time you try to use it.In spite of those possible improvements, it is a fantastic device that will change your photography, I will include a few images using the CamRanger. Feel free to ask any questions about using this with Canon cameras. But, I am not aware of how it works with other brands, but I would think it would work fine.
