Love,love,love this series but....
Love this series so much. I’m thrilled I found it,butBut why o why does Eve have to fall into that tired tropeOf the kickass/badass heroine who works herself down to the bone, has little to almost no life outside of her chosen calling and wears martyrdom around her like most of us breathe?Deep sighI adore Eve ,really I do. You don’t make it this far if you don’t like or identify with you FMC at least a little bit. And often I do but there are times when her narrow and short sighted view of the world is kinda tiring . The way she’s been so singularly focused on being a cop, that’s she’s missed 80-90% of cultural references most ppl take granted is one thing but the quick dismissive judgmental attitude, please. The more you know,Eve,the more you know. You’d think she’d realize that you know when what seems like a useless bit of trivia might just break a case wide open.I know all these books center around her job as a cop and that’s fine . But while I’m grateful she has grown and changed and expanded in these 30 odd books and novellas ,and deeply grateful for finally a story where her past abuse as a child isn’t brought up ad nausea , seriously grateful. Why can’t we finally have an Eve who is just a tab less selfish and self absorbed?I mean sure, sure I often say what a selfish lil B Peabody can be,Mavis too but Eve kinda tops the lost at times doesn’t she.I mean sure her job at stoping murders and killers is of course important butEve only seems to think about that and somewhere down the line herselfShe take horrible care is herself and wouldn’t ever see Roarke if he wasn’t determined to be a Padres of her life.Sure she does recognize how blessed she is to have someone who is so determined to understand her abs her life abs be apart of itBut that’s just itRoarke gives so much and she mainly takes ...If their relationship depended of her taken a true interest in his life in return ,they’d never have gotten off the ground .Maybe the business world isn’t t her thing ,and that’s fine but she could at least try. I love Eve on the whole and this series so much I don’t ever want to catch upI want there to always have a new book waiting for me to read, even though I know that’s unrealistic. But I just wish for a Eve that was more grateful and appreciative of what she has ( B I’d so kick to the curb and take Roarke for my own if I could ) and more open and less proud of her own ignorant ignorance, just because you don’t know something Eve doesn’t mean it’s not important.Ps. Not a bad story but like soo many all the time is spent on the chase and hard,y any one the reveal. After spending the whole book chasing the monsters I want to spend more time getting the satisfaction of the payoff of seeing them squirm and explain and pay for their crimes. The chase starts to feel empty and fruitless after a while, when after all the effort stalking and chasing and identifying the story end moments after the capture.

Indulge in Eve & Roarke's world!
I am still excited when a new installment in the "In Death" series is released. I can definitely say that there are more good stories than bad (and I am not saying that any of them are, just some I loved more than others), and this one was no exception. I have even read the in-between released after this one (Possession in Death) and can't wait until February for the next one. I'm hooked on this series!"Indulgence" finds Eve vacationing with her beloved husband, Roarke, in Ireland and wondering why anyone would love the country and not the BIG city. But she also understands and hopes that planning a visit with his new found family, will bring a smile to his face. After all, he's done so much for her and she feels that this is something that she can give her husband, one of the richest men on the planet. What better than spending a few days with his deceased mother's twin sister and surprising him with a memorial park dedicated to his mother. Just when you think that the hardened NYPD Lieutenant couldn't get any softer, she does. As luck would have it though, death even finds Eve in Ireland. Of course they stumble upon a murder of a young girl. However, unlike Eve's usual MO, she is determined to merely be an observer, and reframes from jumping head long into an investigation, but instead gives a young officer guidance. When Eve returns to New York, rested and ready for the world, she is called to investigate a murder that on the surface is puzzling. As the bodies add up, it appears that she has been specifically chosen as an adversary. Someone is killing influential people with primitive or odd weapons, leaving them in public areas. They are also covering their trail by stealing identities and using them to plan the murders. However, as Eve follows the clues where they lead, she realizes that she is the ultimate prize for two competitors who have found killing to be their new past-time.What I enjoyed about this story was Robb's (Roberts) continued evolution of the characters and the storyline. You would think that after over 25 "In Death" stories, one would get tired of Eve and her futuristic thrillers, but I'm not. I can't wait to see what is happening in New York in the year 2060. I also appreciate how Eve has softened over the years. She once was hard, a lot meaner, consumed by her work, but now, she is more vulnerable (understandable because she is letting more people in) and most time acts as a mentor. And her relationship with Roarke has charged them both, for the better. She is a better Detective no longer missing as many meals or as many hours of sleep as she use to, but with the love and help of a dedicated husband and supportive friends, she has found new ways of finding peace with herself and her life. I love seeing Peabody, McNab, Mavis, Baxter, Trueheart, Morris, Mira, and all of the others (including Summerset and the cat) in the series, and can't wait until the next one is released. AND now that I have a Kindle, I can take it any and every where and really enjoy Dallas' world. I definitely recommend this story to those who love the series, or those who are looking for a series to love. While I think you should read them all, in order, I also think that someone unfamiliar with the series will enjoy it as well and be inspired to read the others.

As usual a great read.
I love Eve and Roarke. And I want to go to one of their house parties.I like the plot lines Of this story however I'm saddened I didn't get to participate in the barbecue on the Saturday night. JD creates some of the most obnoxious characters, I love it. In this story, the villians are awful people and when they get their comeuppance it's twice the fun because of this.I've still yet to work out if Eve is aware that she's funny or oblivious to her turns of phrase. A fun read all round.
