Easy operation
Nice design with comfortable finger pad and works great. Good replacement for older types that get brittle and break. Essential if you live in earthquake prone area.

Look at your cabinets first!
A great product, but not necessarily relevant in newer kitchens. We all grew p with the drawer latch as the go-to baby proofing tool, so when we set off to baby proof our kitchen and bathroom I ordered a ton of these. It wasn't until we began installing that we realized we'd made a mistake. Most new homes don't have deep cabinets, therefore you cannot install the base portion inside the cabinet.Cabinet drawers which are near the floor, are near impossible to get a screw driver inside of to install the base portion. They do leave four screw marks total (2 for base and 2 for latch), so consider that before purchasing.I really wish we'd have known this before purchasing dozens of these, which we cannot use. We ended up purchasing Cabinet locks and Side by Side Cabinet locks (see link below) which work great for newer cabinets, and it's nice they are also easy to use, don't require installation or leaving screws in your cabinets. We're looking at installing Top Lock Magnet locks since they don't require a deep cabinet.Cabinet Locks - http://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/safety-1st-reg-securetech-trade-cabinet-lock/1015128682?categoryId=32083Side by Side Cabinet Locks - http://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/safety-1st-reg-side-by-side-cabinet-lock-2-pack/1041913918?categoryId=32083Top Lock Magnet Locks - http://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/safety-1st-reg-tot-lock-magnetic-key/1018077442?categoryId=32083

Take your time installing and they will work wonders
These are great locks. I have used them on both children and they work just fine, no matter what other reviewers say. They are a little diffucult to open, but thats their intended to do. If they are too easy to open, there is no way they will keep kids out.I have to point out a few things about the reviewers who managed to crack their cabinets. They did not follow directions, rushed the process, and found out the hard way what happens. This would have happened with anything screwed on.Almost all cabinets are kiln dried hardwood, and with that said they are more prone to cracking (Nobody wants their cabinets to crack and bow from the natural drying process after a year of installation). The cracking people are complaining about is from pre-drilling too small, too shallow, or tightening too much. The reviews about not working well with newer cabinets is also false. All you need to do is remove the drawer before installing. There is plenty of space to install.Last, the comment about the item breaking is probably the silliest one. As with any material, there is a malubility threshold before failure. This goes back to the installation process. The item should be close enough to catch the latch, but not so tight that you have to hammer on the latch to open the drawer.Proper installation is key.-Remove contents from drawer.-Remove drawer.-Pre drill cabinet. Mark the bid with tape no longer than the screw, and no wider than the diameter of the screw at the inside of the threads.-screw in in the catch tight enough to keep it in place without deforming the plastic.-Put the drawer back in.-mark the drawer where the center of the catch is located on the cabinet.-remove the drawer and use the supplied stencil to place marks where screws will go.-pre drill the backs of the drawers.-fasten the latch snugly, but not too tight.

Save your time and money and try something else.
What a colossal disappointment. Maybe my family has Hulk blood and we don't know our own strength, but my 13 month old just destroyed these things. They didn't deter him at all. The plastic is cheaper than dollar store snacks, so they break easily. Very easily. They truly aren't worth the time it takes to open the package. I'm not sure what a good alternative is, but anything is better. Hire a body guard. Get some rubber bands. Glue your cabinets shut and just live without your bowls and plates for a year. Just don't waste your money on these things.

Poor Product
I don't often write reviews. But this product is so unbelievably un-installable that I had to say something. Not only are they incredibly hard to install, but they provided screws are so thick, that they cracked the wood of the cabinet doors. This goes also for the spring loaded door latches which I also tried from Safety 1st. This product is crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, and crap. DO NOT BUY.
