Worth the purchase
Have always bought Merrick for my cat even as a kitten. The ingredients have no harsh additives like most dry food. And the size of the bag helps me make sure I have plenty.

Great brand pet food
Our cat loves it. We actually buy Merrick dry food for our dog too. I wish that Merrick offered more flavor options for cat food

Stopped one cat's vomiting immediately
We rescued six feral kittens/cats. Three were vomit queens with three distinctly different "puke patterns". We slowly introduced this into their food hoppers, mixing a larger amount each day with their old food. The most successful mix -- where we are now -- seems to be 75% Merrick with 25% regular kibble. One of the cats completely stopped vomiting as a result of the food and it made our lives so much better with the decrease in cleanup. Two of them continued to vomit. One had an odd pattern of giving some primeval screech/meow and then barfing some very-digested brown goo, usually several hours after eating. This happened at least once a day, and sometimes more. There was one large deposit, and then a small spot a couple seconds later. It did not seem related to the brand or type of food she ate. Our vet diagnosed a possible cat auto-immune issue that affects their gastro-intestinal systems. As an experiment, she gave Kitty a shot of steroids and the puking stopped that very day. Now she gets .3ml of Prednisone (liquid compounded with poultry flavor) daily and has completely stopped vomiting. She's is happy and playful where before she was often hunkered and scrunched as if in pain. The other of the three was in the wild the longest. Probably her instincts say that she may not be secure as to her next meal so simply gorges and then pukes immediately. It will continued unless/until she knows we won't let her starve. All of six of them are healthier with shinier coats. Two (non-pukers) are food obsessed and fat. We haven't seen a decrease in their weight from this food, but that may occur over time. So, all of the this review isn't about the Merrick food, which we will continue to use because it has eliminated barfing for one cat and all of them are more beautiful with the new diet. I added the info about the steroids in case others are researching different cat foods as it relates to vomiting. It could be an auto-immune issue and nothing to do with food. It's important, as they are in pain (per the vet).

UPDATE: Puurfect Bistro Salmon Flavor seems to hit the mark again.
10/19 Update:Decided to give Purrfect Bistro Salmon flavor another chance and have been buying it after the Merrick BG1 Chicken brand was finished . My little buddy seems to have grown accustomed to it and is eating normally. Some days he's hungrier than others but overall, he seems to finish up his food every day. I like that he's been healthy going on 7 years and is at a steady eight of 14.9 lbs (yeah, I need to get him back on a diet). But he seems happy and looks great. Thanks Merrick.02/19 Updated updated review:Guys, I just received a new shipment about a month ago.....i knew right away something was different. The grains are a little lighter in color, a bit larger and softer. Also, when I soak them in water, they definitely get a mushier, creamier consistency than earlier bags (almost like there's an oil or something added). Although this now belnds better with other food i may add to it, my cat is definitely not happy....he eats it in very small portions and leaves a lot behind. I'm not sure how they changed the formula, but I ended uo going back to the Merrick BG brand...unfortunately i can't seem to find the BG2 (salmon) flavor at a price less than $65 a bag, so I ended up buying the BG1 (chicken). If I find out how they changed the formula, I will let you guys know.12/18UPDATED REVIEW:Well, my buddy definitely likes this as much as his prior brand, BG 2. After a few months of feeding him this, he has definitely lost weight (he was 14.9 lbs, now at a much healthier 13.5). I guess I got used to the vegetable smell when I mix this with water (at least my buddy doesn't mind it in the least...) and I noticed that the slightly larger, softer kibble bits make it much easier for him to chew (prior to using Purrfect Bistro, he would simply swallow the harder, smaller BG2 kibble bits whole without chewing; with Purrfect Bistro, he is definitely chewing them, likely making him feel more full and the food more digestible). So I decided to keep him on Puffect Bistro for good. Hope this review helps others...grain free is definitely the way to go...my buddy looks and feels great and he seems to still have plenty of strength to scratch my furniture and mattress :-(ORIGINAL REVIEW: My cat seems to like this as much as his original Merrick BG #2 brand. And I like the fact that the grains a re a little bit bigger than my other brand. My only issue is that the grains are a bit lighter in texture (which may be good for older cats) and when I mix some of this dry mix with water (my little buddy likes wet and dry food), it has an odd sort of vegetable smell. It's also a bit lighter in color than the original Merrick BG#2 brand. The ingredients look very similar, but the product rep simply says its a newer improved formulation (gee, uh, thanks...). So for me, I really like Merrick in general, but I'm going back to my original Merrick brand when this is completed

Good food, but . . .
This review is for Merrick Real Chicken and Sweet Potato Recipe dry cat food, which is what I received. My cat has been eating this for nine months. He likes the way it tastes, and this food has not caused any health problems. The first few ingredients are good -- deboned chicken, chicken meal and turkey meal. The round food pieces are a quarter of an inch across and they are large enough for my cat to crunch on. The food is easy to digest and it does not make my cat sick. I like how this food contains no fish, no rosemary extract, and no rosemary oil, because some cats are sensitive to rosemary extract and rosemary oil, and some cats are allergic to fish. I also give my cat canned cat food every day, and sometimes he gets homemade cooked chicken. What I don't like about this product is that it contains a lot of potato and pea ingredients, and those are not nourishing. Occasionally you open a bag and the food pieces are extremely small -- much smaller than a quarter of an inch. Sometimes there is a layer of kibble powder and crumbs on the bottom of the bag. If the food pieces are too small, my cat will not eat it. Then I have to throw the bag away. But I keep getting this food because my cat really likes it.

Hiked the price
This product used to cost 30% less than it does now. I get modest price increases over time, but this seems like a complete cash grab from loyal customers who have been buying this cat food frequently. I originally got it because it was priced competitively and seems healthy for my cat. At this point, there are cheaper alternatives, and healthier alternatives at this price point. I really hope this product returns to a reasonable price some day as a sudden $15 increase is hard to justify for this product.

CAUSES CRYSTALLIZATION
DO NOT BUY THIS FOOD. IT WILL CAUSE YOUR MALE CAT TO HAVE A URINARY OBSTRUCTION.My male cat had 0 health issues during his lifetime. He is normally an active, healthy cat. After I began to switch him to Merrick food (thinking I was giving him healthier and better quality food), he developed crystals in his urethra which lead to a urinary obstruction and thousands of dollars in vet bills. Every vet I saw during his hospitalization told me that this was because of the food I was giving him. When I fed him VetDiet for over a year, he never once had health issues, thus I am inclined to believe them. Now he will have issues for the rest of his life (he is 2 years old) due to the urinary obstruction. I wish I had stuck with feeding him his normal food instead of buying Merrick.

My wallet's saying yes, but their tummies tell me no
Looking for grain-free options for my two kittens. Purchased it based on the reviews from Amazon.comThis is definitely the best option that I have been able to find in terms of price. Previously, the other brands that I had been purchasing locally were almost double the cost.Unfortunately, my kittens seem to be vomiting now since they have switched over. We have switched numerous brands in the past few months and this is the first time they have had digestive issues. Also, cleaning their litter boxes is torture now because the scent is atrocious! It's a noticeable difference.

I'm half tempted to try it now...
This is my new go-to cat food. Before I even got around to opening it, my furry friend was rubbing himself all over the Amazon box. He devoured the first helping of it, and guilted me into giving him seconds, which he conquered as well. He's been on this food for a few weeks now and his energy has gone through thew roof. It's like he's a kitten again.I'd highly recommend anyone who is looking for a quality grain-free catfoot to check this out. Plus, the price is very reasonable.

My cats love this food
My cats loves the salmon flavour of this food. I find it hard to find it in stock at Petvalu or Global Pet Foods. I'm so happy I can get it on here and have it delivered every month. I've tried the duck and chicken flavours with them, but they are picky jerks so I switched back to this flavour.
