My mother-in-law was a Picture Bride, so, of course, this book fascinates me! The only reason it got my four-star rating and not five is that it seems to be a little gentle on some of the experiences of the Japanese immigrants and their American-born kids. The book surely shows how immigrants and their children reared here differ, showed various responses to discrimination faced by Japanese-Americans, showed that there are a number of very different individuals in this, as in every other subculture. The writing is skilfull--unlike my discussion of issues that float my boat. This is a book worth reading by anyone who has experienced some of what is described, and even more so by those who haven't.

Good Book
I had to read this for a history class, and at first I was a little skeptical because, after all, it was a school book. But after reading it, I was happy to have read it. It was actually a very good book. I had to read 3 books this semester, and this one was the only one to actually catch my attention. I would recommend reading this book, you learn so much about what the Japanese went through during WW2.

Incredible read...
This was the first novel by Uchida that I had the pleasure of reading. Books was quick and simple read, but deeply rewarding. I have gone on to read a few other books by Uchida, and all are equally inspiring. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a vivid and captivating read.
