Fantastic Bee Gees CD!
Their early songs are definitely worth listening to if you haven't had a chance to! Three part harmonies were in their early songs as well. The genius of the Bee Gees is evident even this early on!

The Beatle-Gees!
They could write a song.. even when it was fashionable to be the Beatles. It's a very enjoyable album and a generous offering of 24 tracks on this one CD. Mastering sounds fine. Makes me want to hear more Bee Gees.

EARLY PRE-"BEE GEES 1ST" ALBUM OF POP MUSIC
I have to say that I've never been a fan of the disco era Bee Gees. I've always gravitated toward their (arguably) best work, the (2006 2 CD reissue) "Bee Gees 1st". But their earlier work too, before they left Australia is full of good pop songs of the period. And this single disc collects a number of their best songs, many that floated around at the time as demos and/or relatively unheard songs, all written by one or more of the Gibbs brothers, from this early (1965-66) era. The tracks have been remastered in 2012 (according to the booklet-not 2013 as Amazon claims) and have a clean, period, unadorned sound to them. Thankfully no compression was used to "enhance" the sound-these tracks sound like they should from that era and locale. The booklet has an essay on the music and it's historical significance. There's a couple of pages of photos and news clippings from the period, and recording information. For me, this collection is somewhere between 3 1/2 and 4 "stars". You may hear things differently. This collection is full of the early sound The Bee Gees would use to great acclaim on the "Bee Gees 1st" album. In these tracks you can hear the beginnings of their vocal and arranging skills that made them so popular. In a nutshell, this is some good English-style pop music. There's a Beatles influence in several of these tunes-just listen to "How Love Was True" for a good example. Also included are good songs like "Spicks And Specks", "In The Morning (Of My Life)", Wine And Women", "I Was A Lover A Leader Of Men", "I Want Home", "Exit Stage Right", and the PF Sloan-like "And The Children Laughing", among several other good songs from the period. The simple recording techniques give these songs a slightly rough, unpolished sound. And when combined with the straightforward arrangements, these songs have a certain period, breath-of-fresh-air-appeal. You'll also hear some Everley Brothers harmonies periodically in some songs. But for fans of the early Bee Gees sound-the massed vocals, and their arranging skills-this is worth checking out.If you want to hear more (several songs here aren't on their albums) from this period, their first two proper albums have also been reissued, along with a third album (all with original album covers) cobbled together with unused tracks (the 3 CD "Festival Albums Collection") to take advantage of the brothers when they hit it big with "Bee Gees 1st". The first full album has a real Beatles influence to it, while the second album shows the brother's sound beginning to grow and morph into what would become "Bee Gees 1st".This is some good English style pop music. Why this music has never really been more popular is a mystery. Maybe because no one has reissued their albums with good sound and nice packaging until now. The best of these songs deserve more respect. There's nothing truly startling here, just some good early pop music. And that's good enough.

Early brilliance.
Considering their ages when they wrote and performed these songs, they were brilliant. Great harmonies. No surprise there! A lot of fun tunes when they were quite young and early glimpses of genius both for composing and vocally by the three Gibb brothers. Robin's voice especially was very distinctive and mature early on.

Another example of the amazing tallent that is the Bee Gees
Another example of the amazing tallent that is the Bee Gees. By modern recording standards this album is very stripped back but evokes the feel of the time. You really get a feel of the morning of their astonishing career.
