Jennifer does it again!
We are big Jennifer Nielsen fans at our house and so we were excited to read Rise of the Wolf. It did not disappoint! I often have a hard time finding age appropriate books for my eleven year old son who reads above is grade level. I appreciate, as a parent, Jennifer's books because she manages to tell a fantastic story that keeps his (and mine!) attention without all the extra unnecessary stuff. Well done!

Intense
If you are looking for a book full of suspense and intensity, this is it. Amazingly well written, it has gripped me from the start. In my case, it's been too intense. I've only been able to read it in small bursts. It's one of those books that goes from bad to worse with nary a reprieve. It's more a series of unfortunate events than the series by the same name. I'm only hoping the third book won't end in tragedy. That said, the language, characters, setting, and plot are all phenomenal.

Thrilling sequel
This is book 2 in the Mark of the Thief series. Nic is still in heaps of trouble from having stolen the bulla of Caesar’s and being marked by magic. His grandfather still seems bent on making his life miserable, and Aurelia and Crispus are making him jealous. The action continues and never stops. My only negative about this book is that it ends on a cliff-hanger. Those aren’t my favorite endings. But I really love the characters and how the book moves me along at a fast pace. No boring parts in this one. It is a thriller.

Another winning series.
I had a bunch of hours to kill recently as my family was driving to Florida for a vacation. This book was the perfect distraction from the mundane car ride and the hours flew by.I love that the main character is male. Not a goofy male, but a really ingenious, loveably flawed male with a stubborn streak to boot. Nowadays, it seems like most leads are female. I have a 13 year old son and I have a very hard time finding him books at the library that are age appropriate and interesting enough to keep him reading. (My 15 year old daughter loves this book too.) This is book 2 in the Mark of the Thief series and you definitely have to read book one first. There is too much that you have missed otherwise. I LOVE the author's imagination and cleverness. She really can see a story entirely from start to finish. There is no faking it when you get to book 2 and you can't pull enough from one and make the story glide easily to book three. As with her False Prince series, it is amazing to see the entire story come together in a very smart and creative way.Can not wait for book three. When I get it, I will re-read books one and two and then three, to see the full story come together. It is so much richer that way. You will not be disappointed!

Buy the book!
Combine Harry Potter and Game of Thrones plots and writing stiles and you have a great book. It's not as slow as Lord of the Rings books but it's not as quick as Harry Potter. It's a nice change up. I really enjoyed the read.

Nielsen visited my kids school and they fell in love with her
Jennifer A. Nielsen visited my kids school and they fell in love with her. They love her books and I love they are reading. So far I am hearing this book is great from the 11 and 13 year old.

What an exhilarating ride. Couldn’t stop reading and can’t wait to read book three. So much better than book one and what a cliffhanger for an ending.
