Wow. Just... Wow.
This is just an all round great album. Infected Mushroom rules the world. There is a reason they have been around for 10+ years, with 8 albums. They are progressive excellence, and sometimes remind me of P.Floyd.

Its so good!!!
I started my IM journey with Classical Mushroom and that one is still my favorite. But this one really feels like it could be like an accompanying album to Classical Mushroom and I love it for being that.

Unimpressive
I've just recently gotten into Infected Mushroom, and there are many of those who say that IM was better when they were older -- something people have said of just about every band ever. It's certainly not true in this case. The Gathering is IM's first album, and it shows. It's not awful by any stretch, and has its moments. However most of the sounds of this cd are very typical trance, and it's difficult to see IM's true talent in the Gathering alone. In particularly, the sampling felt amateurish, especially in the first song. Quoting so much of Independence Day made the band feel like a couple of teens trying to prove to their friends how cool they are. It's not that Infected Mushroom is a terrible duo. They're really very great, and in their later albums this shows clearly. The Gathering just feels like a first draft, a starting point to where they would later go when they became more unique. Anyone wishing to get a better idea of what IM is capable of should check out Converting Vegetarians or IM the Supervisor. That's their primo stuff.

Kick Ass Goatrance!
This album is pretty good upon first listen. Then it grows on you. It is infectious, hence the name `Infected Mushroom'. The first few times I listened to it, much of it did not sit right with me. Some of it even rubbed me the wrong way. But later, coming back to the album, I saw how many things were right with it. There is a lot going on in this album, and it is sure to keep your brain busy interpreting it. They have a good sense of how to implement the echo effect, and on many occasions, they manage to get the sound just right. They certainly know their stuff on tracks 2: The Gathering, 3: Return of the Shadows, 6: Montoya Remix, 7: Tommy the Bat, and 9: Over Mode. These tracks have enough coherent intensity to make this album a very worthwhile purchase. The rest of the album is nothing to sneeze at either, but some tracks deserve to be highlighted over others. If it wasn't for these five tracks, a lower rating would be more appropriate.

Classic and needed addition to the collection
While The Gathering is not on par with recent albums, it is a must in one's collection, being their debut album. Psychedelic is not a strong enough of a word to categorize this great album.
