FAST pen drive, rugged design
These pen drives keep getting bigger, better and faster. I previously bought a 256 GB unit from this earlier Kingston line Kingston Digital DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 (DTHX30/256GB). While I didn't run any benchmarks Ihis unit seems noticeably faster (I use both models on USB 3.0) and has twice the storage. Mechanically it seems better designed too. The last one had a big head so a couple times I walked by my PC when it was plugged in the front of and accidentally shoved the pen drive sideways. This bent the USB connector and eventually it started flaking out. This USB connector seems more rugged and solidary with the rest of the body. One gripe with most pen drives, this one included, is it's easy to lose the cap if you carry the pen drive back and forth. There is no good solution, the kind with a retractable USB plug introduces more mechanical problems than it fixes. I would like to see a thin cord that ties the cap to the other end, which you can remove if you don't like. You can't improvise that yourself here as the cap doesn't have a ring like the other end.

Solid drive. Fast speeds. Cap stays on. Great product.
It works great. Solid flash drive. The design is pretty cool and the cap has stayed on solid for me. The speeds are super fast and consistent and I've had no issues with this drive at all. It's definitely my best flash drive I have at the moment. A little bit pricier than other USB 3.0 flash drives with the same capacity, but the speed is solid and faster than several of the others I've had. I would recommend this drive.

Very fast
This thing is fast for flash drive. Mine benches at 268 MB/S read and 220MB/S write. A bit less than that what was advertised, but for a flash drive, it's very fast. It's not the cheapest flash drive you'll buy, but it's much faster than the other $50 128GB 3.0 drives I have, it's easily more than twice as fast as the cheaper PNY Turbos I have. Seems well constructed too.

Trustworthy, Expensive, Heavy Leverage, Space-Hog
468 GB usable space. Same maximum file size as other flash drives (roughly 4 GB). “3.1 generation 1” simply means "3.0". It works fine in black 2.0 ports, but faster in blue ones. Although some cheap extreme-space drives are said to crash, this one’s legitimate. The size is larger than others, pushing the drives in adjoining ports slightly out of straight. It’s long and surprisingly heavy, as if the red X is thick steel. I’m worried that all this pushing and prying might shorten the life of the port, the drive next to it, and/or itself – especially since my computer’s ports are on the side instead of the top. The old style cap lets you insert and remove the drive without having to reach a lever, or otherwise hold the connector out. For most people, the better deal would be to get two or more smaller-storage drives. I got this out of the need to have a single high-storage drive. Although costly, it mostly satisfies my need. I wouldn't mind having a cheap terabyte USB flash drive that works, and has no restriction on file sizes.

Does the job.
Kingston is a trusted brand for USB drives. Maybe not the "bleeding edge" in performance, but reliable and they work. After 2 bad drives from another manufacturer (rhymes with horsehair) had to be sent back I bought this drive and have no complaints. This USB stick is fast and has 256GB capacity, which is great for such a mobile device.

frustrated after using for a few months.
Updated review after having it for a few months. Today, once again, this thing takes forever to write files.. True story here, I copied a folder with about 2800 small files onto this drive, it took several minutes. When the dialogue box closed saying the copy was done, Windows or the device itself was still writing the files, so I could not pull the thumb drive out for risk of losing data. It wrote the files for so long that I had time to put in a regular old slow thumb drive, copy all the files and eject the 2nd thumb drive BEFORE this "fast" one was done writing the files. Now, this "may" do good with huge files, but with a bunch of small ones it stinks and I won't buy another because of it. For this money, I would rather buy an external drive adapter for an SSD and use that.Initial review: The extra cost is worth it if your sick of waiting for your huge files to finally get written to your USB drive. This is significantly faster than any other that I have tried.I can't say if reads are much faster, I didn't really time it since reads have never been the issue for me.

RELIABLE, POWERFUL, FAST
This is a great, great, great product. A fine device for backing up 512 gb of files. I have zero complaints and nothing but the highest praise. Especially if you have many photos, this is extraordinarily useful. I'd give it 100 stars if I could.

Good for large files, not small ones
The overall throughput for large files (e.g. videos) seems to be as advertised. But for small files (e.g. 1 byte!), the transfer time is very inconsistent, sometimes taking 8 milliseconds, sometimes taking up to 4 seconds. I'd recommend for large media but not (for example) general backups. This is on a Mac with the drive formatted as standard Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
