Amazing blast from the past! Such a great novelty gift!
I remember these when I was a kid, but unfortunately my parents never bought me one. After seeing the new Star Wars Tamagotchi, I recalled this toy, and was curious if any survived after all these years.Lo and behold! Bandai had released an updated version of the classic and I instantly purchased two of these little guys, one for me and one for my wife! I opted for the 20th version and not the X because the 20th looked like it was more straightforward and less complicated. But why buy one for the wife?Well, when it comes to dinner, we usually want different things, so when it comes to making a decision for anything that conflicts, instead of the ol' rock paper scissors, we bust these out and have a best 2/3 battle. We're in our 30's I might add...There is something very novel about the pixel-type graphics, the noises, the attention you must give it. It's such a great way to unplug and take your mind away back to simpler times.Obviously, I have adult responsibilities, and unlike when I was a kid, I have to work so I can continue buying even more superfluous items so Jeff can take another ride up to space. The learning curve is quite simple. There is a simple trick to keep your pet alive! Just set the clock to 7:30PM and put it to sleep. Digi pet's have their own wake and sleep cycle which is 7AM - 9PM. If you ask your pet to sleep between their waking hours, they will fall asleep for 2 hours (if only children were this easy). Doing so will put your pet to sleep for about 11 hours or so since it will roll into it's natural sleep cycle at 9pm and continue to sleep until the clock strikes 7AM.If you really have to get away on a business trip or have a long stretch of work as I do and don't want to lose your progress, you can always take out the battery. (Haven't done this - but I am assuming this is a workaround) Once you're back and have the time to care for it you can place the battery back in and select the LOAD option. It's amazing how much you can do with such a simple device. There are the basic functions of checking the status of your digi, feeding your digi food or a vitamin, training your digi in a couple different modes, fighting your digi against the CPU, cleaning up it's digital poop, wake / sleep, heal injuries from battle, a journal of all your collected digimon, combat against another device, and a care-mistake icon at the bottom right. There are many ways you raise your digimon and with this updated version, you can raise two simultaneously, and let me tell you it's pretty easy to forget that your digimon is like an actual pet.If you neglect it, it will sadly die.My wife already lost a pet lol. Fret not, you can press the top two buttons at the same time and you'll be able to choose another egg. There are a ton of Digimon to collect! It took a little bit of research to learn all the tricks, but with YouTube... it's pretty easy to learn the basics in under 10 minutes.Highly recommend. This makes a perfect gift for anyone who enjoys this type of stuff. Planning on buying a few more as stocking stuffers for the holiday season.

I’m in love!
So this is my first hand account on this device.I got really into tamagotchis and then found out about the Digimon 20th devices. I was surprised to see that they had so much more to them then the original tamas do. You can evolve them, train them, battle them and even battle against friends, but who has those so the added tournament feature to battle against the built in digimon is nice. You can even raise 2 digimon at once. Once your first one reaches a certain stage then you’re given the option to pick another from 5 different eggs. There’s even secret eggs to unlock as well with strange prerequisites.I recommend looking up Humulos guide on the evolution paths and the requirements for the different digimon. I learned everything from there and still reference it to this day. The videos on YouTube are great and informative as well.I finally got my Metal Greymon and was so excited.I was a big a fan of the original show in the 90s and never knew about the virtual pets until now. I was so surprised! So all in all these devices are a great entry into the digimon virtual pet scene. And there’s so many types of digimon you can raise! I can’t wait till i raise my 2nd digimon into cres garurumon and get omnimon! This is a great buy if you’re nostalgic for the show and love V-pets. A steal at the price they are going for. I might buy another just to raise another 2 digimon! Great purchase and super happy with it!

NOT for night owls. No sleep mode and no way to tune settings to change a digimon's sleep schedule
I work in the graveyard shift, and the way this device works is it makes a beep if your digimon is hungry, or if it's time to go to bed. In silent mode, forget it, you would have to stand by the device to know if these cues come up, and the alternative is the sound mode which I can't afford to have going off during my daytime sleep or during midnight work. Since there is no way to tune a digimon's sleep schedule or send the device into a real "Sleep mode", every single night the digimon will go to bed on the floor (without you), which results in a care mistake (and now you're locked out of digivolution routes). This digivice is only useful for daytime people.

Awesome fun.
I never had the original digivices, but I did have the blue and white one Davis had in the anime and I loved it to bits. I was stoked to recently find out about these having been released for Digimon's 20th anniversary (even if I was a biiit late in finding out, loool). So far I've gotten two and have tinkered with their shells. Love me some black and white aesthetics. 🖤 I love that even if the battery dies, it'll keep your progress saved! I was always so bummed when my old digivice would die since I'd always have to start over. 😞

This Digimon Tamagotchi is more complex but interesting.
This Digimon Tamagotchi is more complex compared to the previous versions. I like how the changed the game mechanics but added some others that meshed well with each other, I give it my thumbs up of approval 👍.

I love it
I love it though digimon are harder than I thought to take care of as it is easy to forget to feed them. Turing off the nice isnt explained but a quick google search can help. Last really long battery life.
