Sure on This Shining Night

This album includes some of my favorites of Lauridsen's compositions... the reason I ordered it. But it also has some of what I don't much like. Therefore, I am a bit less than enchanted with the album overall. I do, however, very much appreciate the quality of the production. Voce is awesome!

this may be the most beautiful song of post modern times. Words by James Agee, Music by Lauridson, beautifully sung. The other music on the disc is not up to the masterpiece "Sure on this Shining Night."

Some of the best music written and performed by one of the best choral groups. I will get more of their recordings.

Is there a more beautiful setting?

Lauridsen is a genius.

Amazing Choral Music!

This is such gorgeous and uplifting music. This song, and album is one of Morton Lauridsen's best..... we love it!

The singers are talented, and the music of Lauridsen is beautiful, but this is not a professional level recording. The songs accompanied by piano sound like the piano is incorrectly mic'ed (at the back of the hall) and the overall balance is wanting. Dynamics don't come across as they should. The weaknesses of the recording are obvious even in my car (Bose system), but glaringly so on a sound system with quality components & professional-level speakers. Comparing this to the Los Angeles Master Chorale's recording of the Lux Aeterna (an excellent recording) only highlights the disappointment of this CD even further.
