Lovely shampoo that makes my hair shiny again
I use the same shampoo and conditioner five days a week (I don't wash my hair every day because I have a super dry scalp and it gets tight and itchy). But after a few weeks of this, my hair starts to look dull. Not even a generous dollop of conditioner can make the shine come back. After five weeks, the bounce was gone and my hair was looking noticeably thinner, why did I wait five weeks? Because I'm lazy and once I get into the shower, the hot water is so relaxing, it's a stretch to remember to wash my hair, much less, use an alternate shampoo. Plus, this yukking of my hair is a gradual process, so it wasn't until three months had passed that I was trying to style my hair and threw my hands up in annoyance, my hair looked awful and was limp as a used tissue, worse, I wasn't sure what I could do to fix it!That's when I realized I probably had shampoo buildup, so I rushed out to buy a bottle of Avalon Organics Lemon Shampoo (someone had used all the shampoo, refilled the bottle with water and left it on the shower shelf, the nasty little such and such!) anyways, my usual store was out, all they had was Avalon Lavender Shampoo, I loathe the smell of lavender, plus it gives me a nasty headache/itchy throat/ watery eyes, so I came online to buy it on Amazon. Oh the waiting was terrible, but not too long, just a couple of days, Yay!It had been such a long time since I used the Lemon shampoo, that I'd forgotten how nice the smell was.But I don't buy this for the natural lemon scent, although I do have a problem with perfumes, so I usually buy unscented everything, even trash bags.I buy this shampoo because with just one wash it made my hair shiny and swingy again. My hair is dark, almost black and when it got shampoo buildup, the color started to turn kind of ash-y and stringy. But after one wash it looked normal again and it felt nice too, smooth, shiny and running my fingers through it wasn't a snagworthy event.I've used the shampoo two days in a row, and on the second day, my hair looks and feels even better. I didn't even style it or dry it, I gathered it into a ponytail because I was running late (like usual) and stuffed it under a bicycle helmet and three hours later it wasn't even frizzy.I'm not planning on using this shampoo every day, probably just once every six or seven washes to keep my hair from getting so manky and unmanageable.

Great Natural Shampoo
This is my regular shampoo. It does all that I would like--it cleans well and has a nice fragrance. I have normal hair and do not want it to be oily.

Most shampoos feel like they clean your hair but also leave behind a thick residue that smells nice for a while but quickly helps your hair get greasy. The only shampoo I've found other than this one that does not do that is the Selsun line - but after using those I always feel like I've doused myself in a weird chemical. What I love about this shampoo is that it removes the grease from my hair but feels very natural. To be fair, it might simply be a difference of smell - but in my opinion, the experience is an important part of most products. I used the lavender shampoo for a while but have recently been using the lemon, which I enjoy because the lemon smell is more invigorating. I would also like to note that, unlike with the Avalon Organics Soaps, a lack of foaming is not an issue. Perhaps it's because hair helps the shampoo foam up more? Anyway, I do not need a lot of shampoo to wash all of my hair. With this shampoo, I like to wash my hair every other day, as that seems to keep it not too dry but not too oily.

Great-smelling shampoo, but labeling of shampoo and conditioner not distinctive enough
I've used Avalon lavender shampoo off and on for many years and got the lemon shampoo for my partner. He has an oily head, and lemon helps control that. The lemon shampoo is pretty good, and it smells heavenly. He liked it enough that when he ran out he bought more on sale at Sprouts. Unfortunately, he inadvertently ended up getting the conditioner (and he doesn't use conditioner). He didn't realize it wasn't the shampoo because the bottle design and lettering style is exactly the same on the two (and the lettering of the lemon product is in yellow, which makes it hard to read anyway). He wondered why the shampoo was white instead of clear. :)So, we reached out to Avalon (via online form), and they said they were sending some coupons. They didn't comment on our complaint about the lack of distinctive labeling.Several days later, we received two $3-off coupons in the mail. We were underwhelmed. What would have seemed appropriate is a coupon for one FREE product and some sort of acknowledgment of the validity of our complaint (like "Yes, that's a good observation, and we'll take it into consideration next time we redesign our labels. We're so sorry for the inconvenience this caused you!"). By comparison, when I inquired about a favorite tea (which, as it turned out, the tea company had discontinued), that company sent me two sample teabags and a coupon for a free box of teabags of my choice. And when I asked a water-filter company whether their new filter design would fit in my old pitcher (before using one from a new box I'd purchased at Costco), they said yes, you just have to press harder, and they sent me an entire box of 12 water-pitcher filters at no charge. And in these instances I wasn't even complaining about anything. Avalon customer service has some room for improvement, I'd say.

The Lemon Oil Really Makes the Difference
Started using this shampoo in my early 60s when I started having more flakes come off my head. My scalp and hair were changing. Tried other conventional shampoos, including baby shampoo, and had no improvement... until I started using this brand. Have to believe it's the lemon oil and the other natural ingredients. Although not advertised as a dandruff remedy, Avalon's Lemon Clarifying Shampoo instantly stopped the excess flakes from coming off my noggin. Would recommend to anyone.

Great product poorly packaged
several loose lids that allowed the product to leak. this is the worst bottle with 1/4 to 1/3 missing. box was soaked with leaked shampoo. lids should be secured with tape to prevent leakage.Wife loves this product and has been using for years. first time ordering from Amazon.

Good for dreadlocks
I have dreadlock hair so it's advised that I only use organic shampoos without perfume. This is what I've needed.

Keeps hair light, shiny and oil-free for a long time
This shampoo is a life-saver!!! My scalp was constantly itchy, my hair roots would become oily 1 day after washing and brushing my hair was starting to feel unbearable due to how tangled it was. I tried everything: the classic water with vinegar, rubbing sweet almond oil in my scalp to help with the itchiness, lots and lots of conditioner to detangle my hair... You name it! Then I read about clarifying shampoos and this one was amongst the recommendations. I now use it every two weeks and my hair stays light and shiny, only needing a wash after 4 or 5 days. Highly recommend!
