Enjoyable fiction probably based on true court experiences. Likeable characters and well written

I enjoyed this book immensely. In fact, I have thoroughly enjoyed all three novels by Peter Murphy. I am a solicitor and a novelist and well positioned to take a qualified view.

If you thought all Judges are stuffy, strict and without a sense of humour then you should read this book. This isn’t the first book I’ve read in this series but I enjoyed it as much as the first. Peter Murphy writes about cases that can shock and surprise the reader as well as make you laugh out loud but because of his style of writing it makes it an easy read. He shows compassion towards the defendants, witnesses and the barristers representing them as well as his fellow judges. His easy working relationship with all the court staff makes him well liked and respected.

I wish this series would go on and on. He writes with a gentle wiI wish this series would go on and on. The gentle wit and humour is so well expressed , as well as the wonderful relationship between the Judge, his wife and her sermons which manage to link to the next case, and the Court personnel.

I love this series of books. Very readable and very funny. As someone who has worked in the Criminal Justice System for many years there is a little “poetic licence” in the tales, but the author is man with a lifetime of experience in the Law, and this always comes through in his writing. For myself, I think Horace Rumpole has been surpassed by Mr Justice Walden, and I hope that many more books follow.

Loved it,well written and so so true

A bit slow to start, but now getting going along the usual path you expect for the Judge and his colleagues, with a set of new cases to deliberate on.........good, clean. amusing, fun.
