Footprint and height were a perfect fit under a kitchen sink for a 4-gallon capacity
Our home is equipped with a tankless water heater, and it never really bothered me having to run the hot water at the kitchen sink for around a minute before hot water was available. Things changed when we had a baby and were constantly washing bottles. The delay in getting hot water when washing a dozen bottles a day got annoying quickly. I started looking at under sink water heaters, but the way our plumbing was run took up a lot of real estate in the cabinet and many of the 4-gallon options just would not fit.The Stiebel Eltron water heater was a perfect fit. The 4 gallon capacity is nearly perfect for kitchen use paired with a tankless main water heater. You get instant hot water for about a minute, then it cools to warm for another minute before the hot water from the main heater is supplied. It was easy to install for a plumbing novice and works well, so far.I feel confident with this unit that was made in Germany, and manufactured by a company that you know will be around when you need parts for maintenance.

Fast hot water at a remote faucet
Our main hot water heater is a good distance from the kitchen sink. With copper pipes it took almost 2 gallon's to get hot water. This tank is installed on the cold water line under the sink and gives us hot water in 3 seconds. Maybe even more important is that the main hot water heater is not cycled on, thus a money saver. This item has received my Wife's approval.

In 20 years with 5 install locations it's the best so far
Four gallon units installed. We got another one because of the 5 in under-sink locations in the offices now, a single failure before the warranty was up was taken care of without difficulty.Installation can't be easier with standard 1/2" npt inlet and outlet. The pressure safety valve and standard 110V plug are already on the unit out of the box. The amp draw isn't so close to the limit of a standard circuit breaker to give the circuit breaker any stress, while still providing a quick enough recovery time to make it practical.

Always leaks after 2 years
I’m on the second unit and it started leaking after 2 years AGAIN. The first one was replaced under warranty when it also leaked at year 2. Each time it caused a big mess under the kitchen sink. It’s just not worth it, I’m going to look for an alternative solution. I wish that someone would make a heating tank that actually lasts for a reasonable amount if time and doesn’t just crack open to let me know that it’s given up! I would pay $1,000 for a reliable unit and I’m not sure why these companies try to scrape the bottom of quality at these cheap price points. Because water damage to cabinets can cost a lot more than that to fix!

Not enough capacity
Works but barely puts out any hot water and then it runs out.

no water waste
kitchen sink-pretty easy to install, like any other hot water tank. plumbed it directly from the hot water tank, isnt bad under the sink for space. ive had it a month and its been super reliable for temp. and the 4 gallon is the way to go, the 2.5 gallon was just to small to have consistent hot water. it was way worth the extra money.
