The diameter not more than 32mm is ok.

Will the ends with no handles accidentally hit the player on the opposite side and hurt them?

No that has not happened when it was played by my son and nephew. They have had many hours of fun with it and no injuries.

Can this be assembled and then sent easily in the mail?

Yes, this can be assembled relatively easily according to assembly instructions or the product video. The assembled table needs a bigger box than the packing box.
