Good read on the history of the aircraft, not that spectacular if you are looking for detail pics
This book is well written and easy to read. The text clarified some questions about some aircraft versions that I had. However, what I was really looking for was a collection of in-depth photos to use as reference. I was able to get bigger and better general photos just searching online, and the detail shots I needed that I couldn't find online were also lacking in this book. Not a lot of mention regarding the Kazakh aircraft either. If you just want to know more about the MiG-31 then this is a handy book to have. If you are a modeler and are looking for a photo reference book, then save your money and just do an online image search.

A first-rate volume on one Russia's most powerful and fascinating combat aircraft
Anyone interested in the Russian Air Force and its equipment should own this book, written by Yefim Gordon and Dmitriy Komissarov. Gordon is widely recognized as one of the leading experts on the Soviet/Russian air forces, with a long list of books on this topic to his credit. The book offers numerous color photos of the MiG-31, several pages of color paintings of the aircraft in various markings, and a review of the available model kits of the Mig-31. Well done!

Great Photos
This book is very similar to the Air Vanguard series from Osprey Publishing. A lot of detail on the development and deployment. The photographs are excellent.

Mig-31..A very capable threat!
A reasonably good book on a very good aircraft. I look forward to more books or information on Russia's best. Let's see a good book on the Mig-25 which is still shrouded in semi- secrecy. Good to see quality books on Russian aircraft after so many decades of being in the 'closet'!!

An outstanding relief of an underrated type
Thorough and well researched. Information is also extremely up-to-date and accurate. Flight reports from actual pilots would have been a nice inclusion, but the book (and superb content therein) is a bargain for the price. Enthusiasts are unlikely to be disappointed.

Very thorough overview of the last of the Soviet era long range interceptors
The Mig-31 has been the latest in a long line of long range Soviet interceptors, tasked primarily with patrolling the long borders of the Soviet / Russian Far North against aerial incursion. Replacing everything from Su-15s, Tu-128, to Mig-23s, Mig-25s and some other types, it was the first truly modern, 4th generation interceptor for the role. In spite of plans, it has never been exported and the only operator apart from Russia remains Kazakhstan. The Gordon / Komissarov duo has produced another winner here, with plenty of background information on the development, systems, weapons used, upgrade plans and actual upgrades, operational experience in terms of exercises, actual participation in air wars, and operational incidents and accidents. There is also an extensive modelling section covering all standard kits, modifications of those and other advice useful for modellers. The book is accompanied by a wealth of pictorial material and - a bonus for those reading it on a mobile phone - is still readable on a small screen, even if you will not get the full experience from it that way.I guess it is currently the most complete and up to date account on this mysterious fighter in the English language, and therefore certainly a useful addition to aviation libraries of armchair and actual Cold Warriors.

Interesting and informative.
Reasonably well-written and informative. Some interesting and unusual photographs. Useful context around service history and some very interesting stuff about prototypes and development of systems.
