I like Jason Statham, but I can't help but compare this movie with Mel Gibson's "Porter" movie Payback, which I couldn't help but compare to Lee Marvin's "Walker" film, Point Blank, with each step along the road weakening the main characters amoral nature, and losing the heart of Parker, which is a certain darkness..... so, the movie .... the plot you will recognize - thieves, robbery, double cross, revenge. Jason Statham can do the action, but then again, don't look for the fancy fight choreography of the first Transporter, 'cause you won't find it here. Nick Nolte is his aging mentor/almost father-in-law ... but he looks like he is going to have a stroke in every scene - which just made me nervous. Emma Booth is his girlfriend, but not sure if the film shows enough of the back-story to make this character necessary - in fact the whole subplot of Jennifer Lopez (a realtor Parker uses to find the people who double crossed him)/girlfriend/Parker is kind of underdeveloped and just sort of muddies the film, forget about the attempt to flesh out Lopez's relationship with her mother .... Michael Chiklis and crew are serviceable baddies, but do some very stupid things ... like sending a guy they obviously don't trust to finish off Parker. Then again, if he had just walked up and shot him in the head a few times the movie would have been over in 15 minutes. It's just that, people please remember, in real life the bad guys aren't this stupid ... just Hollywood writers.I'm guessing most people haven't read the Richard Stark/Donald Westlake books, and while some may have seen one or more of the other film adaptations of the series (this is the 8th, though it might be the first to correctly call the main character Parker for some reason), I am betting that most people won't be walking into this film with baggage, and to them I would say this movie was OK - thus the optimistic three stars To the people who are looking for the book Parker - at least they got the name right this time.
