Good fit
Used this on an older Craftsman LTX1000. Blades would engage but not disengage. Cable was the issue. Replaced it with this one and it fixed the issue. Since I replaced it at the very end of the season during storage maintenance, I don’t know if/how it will hold up over the course of a full cutting season of engaging/disengaging. Installation wasn’t too bad. I didn’t remove my deck and installed this in about 20 minutes. Few tight spots for hands, but not very difficult overall.

Great
Perfect. I have a OLD craftsman riding mower either from 1990s or very early 2000s. I am a millennial girl with no mechanic experience and I was able to change this cable out pretty easily. Took about a hour and a hour tube video. Took the mower for a spin and it worked great. It was shorter than the line I replaced but works just fine

May or may not fit
I bought this part because it cross-referenced and was half the price of the one from Sears for my craftsman LT1000. Lo and behold, it wouldn’t fit because it didn’t have a plastic piece at the top end that connects that end to the PTO lever. And I couldn’t simply slide that plastic part off the old cable and onto the new one because it is captive, that is, it has to be put on the new cable before the ball end is molded on during the manufacturing process. My old cable was broken so I simply slid the plastic part off (and if it wasn’t broken I could cut the old cable to slide it off) but there was no way to get it onto the new cable. So rather than start over trying to identify a better cable that includes the plastic piece, I clamped the plastic piece into a vise, cut a slot in the back of it with a hacksaw, then worked it onto the new cable and then closed the slot using some quick setting JB Weld. Literally a hack. What else can I say? There’s a plastic wire tie included that holds the cable jacket to the frame above the deck. It’s important so as to not stress the lower end of the cable during operation. The new wire tie supplied was a lot wimpier than the original one so I used a beefier one I already had instead. You may want to do the same but if you do, make sure the new one is black, as the white ones are susceptible to ultraviolet radiation in sunlight and will fail without you noticing, which would then likely cause your new cable to fail.Update: Having subsequently read many other reviews, I have concluded that the part I received was missing the plastic piece possibly because it was previously returned by somebody else after the plastic piece broke off. I should reiterate something another reviewer said, and that is that it is very important to check your mower deck to make sure the piece is being actuated by this cable is not binding and properly lubricated. My friend has the same mower and he said there was a metal burr built up on the mechanism being actuated by the cable that he had to grind off so that there would not be excessive force on the cable. So it is not unlikely that many of the cable failures being reported in these reviews are a function of work that needs to be done to the mower rather than the cable being faulty.

Good product
Installed this on a craftsman riding lawn mower. It was a direct replacement. Took about 20 minutes to put on the mower.

The naysayers are wrong, good product.
I will start by saying my deck has never been this easy/effortless to engage. The old one took muscle to engage....this new one my 9 year old can handle no problem. I just installed it, very easy. I immediately tested it and put it thru the ringer, works without fail. I definitely recommend this product. Additionally I will comment on all the negative reviews... Which kept me from ordering for days. They are BS. Written by people with either no basic troubleshooting skill or common sense. There is nothing about this install that is complicated. There is nothing that should get in the way, put extra stress on the cable or cause any part of it to break. While installing I noticed the components that these complainers probably didn't properly feed the cable around, thereby causing undue stress and breakage. In other words, they did it wrong and broke it and blamed the product. SMH. Typical people, blame everyone/everything else. This cable has a proper path to be fed. There should be absolutely nothing in any way obstructing or cause for bending this cable around. See pics of what your mistake probably was. I'm happy to eat my words if the cable fails, but it takes so little effort to engage now that I confidentially doubt that will happen. Don't let the naysayers sway you, this works like a charm, as it should.
