Qotom Qotom-Q575G6-S05 Intel Core i7 7500U Processor with 6 LAN Mini PC Support Linux Centos to Build Firewall Router (4G DDR4 RAM + 64G MSATA SSD + WiFi)

I bought the version with I7-7500U, 8GB of RAM, and 256 SSD, no WiFi. My use case is for a firewal/router, currently I am using Untangle on it.I like this form factor. It is small and quiet, using the entire case as a passive heat sink. It does get a little warm (but not super hot) which tells me the case is indeed dissipating the heat. 6 Intel ethernet ports make it compatible with a variety of different software platforms including Untangle, pfSense, and TrueNAS. It has two internal Mini SSD ports (not M.2), mine came populated with an SSD in one, and the other was empty (the wireless would go here). I tried mounting the Mini SSD into the other one, and it fits, but I did not actually see if it works. So theoretically you could have one Mini SSD and one wireless card, or two Mini SSD's. There's also a SATA cable (data and power) inside so you can add a regular SATA 2.5" drive. Under one of the Mini SSD mounting platforms is also an SD card slot. I don't know how many of these 4 options can all be used at once.Here are some nuggles I have with this unit: * Slightly older processor options - we're now at 10th gen and the I7-7500U was the best I could get * Only one SODIMM slot, so it does not run dual channel memory * The default when connecting power is to require a power switch press to turn it on. There is an internal jumper you can move to change this behavior, but it's a small project to change it (you have to remove the case bottom, front and back plates, Mini SSD, then take out the motherboard, and the jumper is on the underside). I had to remove 21 screws, including that small fiddly one on the Mini SSD. Given that most use cases for a device like this will be servers of some kind, I'd rather see the default changed to turn on when power is applied -- or to have a purchase of which way you want it.This is a solid device that I'm hoping will set on my server shelf and need little attention. With no moving parts, it should just sit there and do its thing! I've looked at other (more expensive) devices that are similar, and I'm happy that I chose this device. If they come out with more modern processors, I'll probably purchase another for a different project.

Just upgraded my Internet to AT&T Internet 1000 (1000/1000 Mbps) from Spectrum (200/20). The RG that AT&T provides uses passthrough mode as opposed to bridged mode, and my old router only gets about 650/650 Mbps in passthrough mode. There are articles out there showing how to setup a pfSense firewall between the RG and ONT for authentication traffic only, and using multiple OPT ports for firewall/router, allowing for true bridged mode. I think I may have gone overkill by purchasing the i7 w/ 16gb of DDR4 and 128GB NVMe drive. This little thing looks like a power horse compared to the Protectli device I was considering.Uploading system information page and dmesg information (obfuscating MAC addresses) for anyone considering purchasing this product and a couple of photos (don't mind the mess in my closet). I plan on wiping and reinstalling everything. Requires a little bit of a learning curve, but if you're familiar with Linux/BSD, and a bit of a techy, you should be fine. So far, happy with my decision.

As a matter of fact, when I switched the computer on, I got a message saying for me to select a bootable device and there was no bootable device to select. The computer came without the "unactivated" Windows OS as they described. Furthermore, I am having a hard time installing an operating system myself. I had to buy a USB drive and spent hours formatting and reformatting it and burning an ISO file in the USB drive or making that bootable. I have tried several options based on research done through forums and I cannot make the computer boot from the USB. To make matters worse, not a single piece of paper in the box with any manual whatsoever. The manufacturers web site has a chat that doesn't work. It attempts to open the Zoom app in your computer for you to get an error message saying access denied or something. I am a software developer and know how to boot from thumb drives and install OSs - have done many in my life, but with this one, I have no idea what I am missing.

This is a great platform for a SoHo firewall like Untangle or Pfsense. I use Untangle with the Intel Core i7 7500U and it is more than is needed for our application. The server load is rarely as much as one, even with web filtering, deep packet inspection and the other applications turned on on our gigabit internet service.

I have to turn off all sophisticated features for this to run adequately.It simply doesn't cut it.

VMWare 6.7 installs perfectly. No driver issues or anything.

I purchased one of these units to setup a personal firewall running a 24/7 VPN on my network. Pfsense was my flavor of choice and I am extremely satisfied with the end result. This unit does not even break a sweat running 24/7 VPN w/AESNI. I am near my ISP speed at 850Mbps with the VPN on. This unit works perfectly with Pfsense which in its' own right, is a powerhouse of high level functionality and control.

The mini PC became very hot after I booted up for an hour without any network traffics passed through it or any applications ran on it, I had to shut it down, it is barely useable. There is no user manual or anything in the box, and the manufature's web site provide nothing. Do not buy this product and check out similar products from other manunacture.
