Beautiful story with lovely illustrations
I bought this book after hearing it was about a dog who got a sewing machine and started sewing for everyone in his community! Even though there's very little text, the drawings are beautiful and the story is wonderful. I plan to give it to my mother for Christmas. She loves picture books and she bought me a sewing machine last year. This book reminds me of many of the loves she instilled in me.I think it would be a sweet story for any pre-readers, too. The pictures are wonderful!

I LOVE IT
This is the cutest, most delightful book w/ lovely illustrations and storyline. I may have enjoyed the book as much as my granddaughter. Not many words which makes for great dialogue and interacting w/ the story.

Fashionable dogs!
I first came across this title at our library and then subsequently purchased a copy for our 2-year-old's growing book collection. This book is definitely a favorite. My daughter loves the dogs, the ideas of making clothes, and beautiful things. She also enjoys it when Archie takes tea. It's a great way to introduce the idea of making clothes and sewing to a toddler. We've even attempted to make our own "Archie clothes" for our poodle!

Funny done well
My grandchildren love this book and so will any adult reading it to children. Always amusing when a dog is depicted as human. Done well.

Suitable for a 1-year-old
Not much in the word department. I bought it for my nephew, also called Archie, who just turned 1. He likes the pictures, apparently.

The illustrations tell the story .... in a fantastic way
This is a book that I found incredibly charming, and more than a bit funny. There are very few words of text, no dialogue or story description, so the illustrations really speak for themselves. A marvelous choice for dog lovers. For starters, it really makes me laugh that one dog has another dog as a pet. What exactly are the differences between these two dogs where one walks upright, wearing clothing while the other is content to walk on a leash on all fours, like a ... well, dog? But that's how the book goes, so I will embrace the premise. When Great Aunt Betty sends Archie a sewing machine, he turns an appraising eye at his pet and decides to stitch up a simple coat. On their walk later, Archie's handiwork catches the eye of another dog walker. This duo really makes me laugh because the woman-dog and the dog on her leash both look like pugs, but she's wearing an outfit and the small one is on a leash. In any case, Archie makes an outfit for her dog, and the news of his abilities spread. Before long, Archie's phone is ringing off the hook with requests, until all the dogs in town and their owners are wearing his smart designs. A green plaid suit for his Pug friend, plaid kilts for the Scottish Terriers, and a ruffled flouncy pink dress for the Poodle. Archie produces clever, inventive outfits precisely designed for their personalities. These illustrations are so perfect. She does a brilliant job of making the upright dogs look so evolved. The way Archie casually answers the telephone with one paw tucked into into his dark gray trousers; how he slumps down in his easy chair for a nap after a long day, with one arm trailing down to the floor.I just realized all the dog pairs are the same breed, except for Archie and his dog. Does that mean the upright dogs are the parents and the leashed dogs are the children? But that doesn't explain why Archie and his dog don't match. Maybe I'm reading too much into that.

A Fun Fantasy
Archie by Domenica More Gordon tells the tale of a dog fashionista. One day, Archie receives a sewing machine from his Great Aunt Betty. He seems perplexed by the gift but becomes inspired when he looks at his own pet dog. With a few snips of the scissors and some carefully placed stitches, Archie has made a coat for his pet. While out on a walk together, he is approached by a female dog wanting a dress for her pet. The pair become the talk of the town.Archie's phone begins ringing off the hook. Everyone wants to wear his designs. Will Archie be able to keep up with all of the demands?I thought this was a fun read. The story is nearly wordless and focuses on Gordon's whimsical illustrations. Children will love the cast of colorful canine characters.I do struggle with the fact that the story doesn't seem to have a plot. The main character doesn't appear to face any obstacles. I am also greatly confused at the idea of a dog owning a dog as a pet. This made me wonder why some dogs get to obtain their freedom and walk around on two legs while others are forced to be a pet on all fours. I thought this to be the greatest disconnect with the book.Overall, this is a fun read for children ages 3-6.

A Great Book!
This is a very interesting book. There are very few words to tell the story. However the illustrations clearly depict the events as Archie, who sews his dog a coat, becomes involved with creating outfits for other pets and their owners. Your child will be able to tell the story from the illustrations and it will encourage discussion about the events in Archie's life as a tailor.

The pages are of excellent quality and the illustrations almost occupy the entire page
This book is suitable for children below 5-6 in my opinion. I found it very artistically sound but my view differed with almost everyone (adults that is). Children however, have profound imaginations and are not harsh critics. The pages are of excellent quality and the illustrations almost occupy the entire page. The "reading" part - the story that is, is just a line here and there.
