Pleasant Hearth VFS2-PH20DT 20,000 BTU 23.5 in. Compact Gas vent free stove

This is great. It produces enough heat to keep living area very comfortable. The only thing I would change is how you turn off and on. It is on the bottom and difficult to see. I would recommend this stove. So easy to install, good price, and works great.

First of all this five star stove is dog approved. We love the fact that there was no need to install an external vent or chimney. The stove was placed on our drafty, uninsulated back porch to allow us to utilize this space during these bitter cold NY winter days. The size of this space is 20 ft x 16 ft. Today started out at 10 deg. F on the porch, measured with a digital thermometer. One hour later it’s now at 66 deg and being regulated by the built in thermostat. We initially installed the stove (with optional blower) using a 20 lb propane tank and regulated flexible gas line to determine best location and functionality. Everything worked as advertised. I’ve read reviews here that state the positioning of the thermostat control is a bit inconvenient, being placed so low...and I’d have to agree. However, once the stove pilot is lit and stable you simply crank up the thermostat. Please note that the flame height is not adjustable when you follow the instructions and regulate the gas pressure between 11 and 14 inches of water column. The thermostat knob controls only the shutoff temperature measured at the back of the stove. We set our temperature with the aid of a digital thermometer place away from the stove location. Once the room gets warmed near 65 deg, we turn the knob slowly clockwise until you hear a click from the main gas valve which shut off the gas flow and the flame goes out. Easy Peasy. At night we crank the knob down to very near the pilot lighting position leaving the pilot lit for the next day. We were so impressed with the functionality of this stove that I had a second dedicated, 100 gallon propane tank installed. Finally, this stove is well built and an awesome value for the price.

Great so far. No smell or lighting issues and I can heat my entire 1500 sq ft 2 story house using this and running furnace fan on circulate. The real test and reason I bought it will be when I get first propane fill up to see if this saves money. My furnace is 45k BTU vs this being 20k. If it doesn't save as much, it is probably because I am keeping it warmer than I normally would with the furnace by a few degrees. I could lower it to setting 1 or 1 1/2 to keep it in high 60's and see. It keeps living room warmer than what I would using furnace which is perfect. The thermostat works well, setting 2 keeps it about 70 to 73. Almost all the heat come out the front, the top gets a little hot but not enough to burn, the sides do not get hot at all. The pilot has stayed light, the pilot flame seems a little big but would rather that than not heating thermocouple or going out. Hooking it up is all about getting the right size gas fittings from you line. I used my dryer gas line that was sitting un used and just ran a flexible line through the wall and under the stairs into living room. Using an un used dryer or stove gas line would be easiest way to get this hooked up. If I did not have a gas line just sitting on other side of my living room wall, I would not have put this in.

Assembly is easy, I would suggest the first lighting be without the logs to get use to how easily the pilot lites. You can't see the pilot with the logs installed. But you can hear a difference in the gas flow and the pilot gives off heat as well. The stove will reduce the flames when the temperature setting is reached. However the pilot will stay lit and reignite the stove when the temperature drops below setting. Nice stove for the money.

We bought this stove to replace an old gas insert that was very questionably installed (and I was therefore afraid to even turn on). For the price, I don't think you can find a better looking or more functional gas stove. The look is very clean and goes with basically any decor. The logs are of decent quality and the flame pattern is nice. It was easy to hook up and convert from propane to gas. We didn't get a blower, but really don't feel it is necessary, as it keeps our living room very cozy. The unit is warm to the touch, with the exception of the front grate , which of course does get hot. I agree with other reviews about the controls...the photo makes them appear very visible, but they are actually quite discrete, set under the unit. My only critique is that while the control has 5 settings, we have really only seen it achieve 2-3 distinct intensity levels. The gas line has been dormant for a while, so we're not sure if this is due to air in the system, or the unit itself. But for the price, we are very pleased overall.

This little propane stove is amazing. I had a pellet stove for 10 years but I have a job now where I am gone for two weeks at a time. I didn't feel right asking my neighbor who takes care of my dogs to have to fill it. I went with this stove because it's ventless and it had a thermostat. It has worked great no noise no smell and it is keeping the house at a comfortable 72. I have been using it for two weeks now and it has really not used much propane. This stove is already cheaper to operate then pellet stove. The control knob is on the lower part but once you get it set to the temp you want you don't have to mess with it. I also want to add it doesn't feel or look cheap.

This is more than enough to heat my little apartment and it looks much better than the propane wall heaters we've always used in the past, which is why I spent twice as much to get this one. But it keeps shutting itself off! This is the 2nd one I've had, as the first one did the same thing and I exchanged that but it still did it. So I contacted the company and they sent a new thermocoupler but it's still shutting off. When it's 19 degrees outside I can't have my heat shutting off. And it always seems to shut off at night so I wake up in a cold room. I emailed the company again but I'm about out of time to return this one so I'm afraid I'm going to have to return it and buy one of those ugly wall heaters so I have heat. Especially since I've seen in the home depot reviews for the same item, and apparently many people have theirs shutting off. So the company knows it's a problem and is still selling these. Extremely disappointed.

It works perfectly and keeps this side of my home warm. It has been very cold here 5 degree this morning and usually my water line on my washer freezes but not this year. It's a little pricey but completely worth every penny. Looks pretty too, have received a lot of compliments.
